I was driving yesterday, drove a total of around 70 miles. Everything was fine up until I was about 3 minutes from home, when my clutch just stopped working. Straight to the floor, wouldn't disengage the gears. Could put it to the floor and still accelerate. Tried pumping it, didn't work. I got home by matching revs to shift instead of clutch, and never actually stopping. Got home, turned off the vehicle, went through the gears without clutch, then with clutch, which felt back to normal when off. Turned it on- and it worked. Reversed, 1st gear, anything I wanted. Drove it again today, no problems. I'm just curious what caused it...and if it's going to be a recurring problem I need to look into. It was raining, if that helps anything. I replaced the starter awhile ago with a bosch OEM replacement, which was for some reason slightly smaller than the original- It left a gap under it leading into the clutch housing. However, I sealed that with hi-temp liquid gasket. I asked a friend who is on their third jeep (a 2000 TJ) and has never owned an auto in their life, and they haven't a clue either. Posted on JP while this site was down last night...no response there, though 50 views. Anyone got any ideas? Thanks for your help in advance.

Edit: Also, I have to say that my clutch master cylinder DOES leak, but very slowly. Checked the fluid today, still at the same level that I topped it off to three weeks ago.

Edit again: Oh yeah. It's a 94 2.5L 5 speed.

Hello.

Do D44A disk brakes from a ZJ fit on a D44 TJ axle?
I want rear disks but don´t have much money. I could have a D44A from a crashed V8 ZJ for free.

Thanks!

Just installed a new Volant Cold Air System...here's my review.

'08 Wrangler Unlimited JK 4 dr
Factory stock 255-75R17 Good Years
3:73 gears with factory rear locker
Automatic, Hard Top
26,000 mi running full synthetic

I purchased on line at New Level Motor Sports - Auto Accessories,Truck Accessories, Cold Air Intakes, Flash Tuners, Exhaust, Headers & More at Discount Prices. Good price @ $294 and free shipping. New Level messed up in getting the order to me - took about twice the time and I had to make 3 calls to follow up. Had good price but the customer service was pretty poor in proactively following up. They did finally send it out NDA on their quarter though.

First thoughts....it's loud. Kind of like turning the air cleaner lid over on an old Chevy V8 - the growl/roar. You only really hear this when you are getting on the throttle - regular driving, no change. The growl is a good sound though - you can actually hear the motor running now. The box had a "+22 H.P." sticker on it - don't know if that is accurate; however, there is noticeable acceleration feel. It does feel more "peppy" especially when getting into the throttle.

I just got back from a 500 mi road trip last night (Nashville to Memphis and back) and was specifically paying attention to see if there were any mileage gains. This past fall during nice low 70's temps, I actually got 23.2 mpg on a roadtrip driving at about 70mph. I didn't get quite that good this time. About the first 260 mi, I was driving at 70/72 mph with the rear windows cracked, temp in low 60's. Later that evening returning at 65 mph with fan/heater on low, temp in low 40's.

Attachment 13146

Note in the attachment, the reading shows 23.3 mpg. When filling up, I actually had 417.8 miles on the tank, and it took 19.417 gal to fill up netting an "actual" 21.52 mpg. This is actually the same way I calculated the 23.2 mpg above. That said, I don't know if it was the colder outside air temperature that was giving the lesser mpg or ?? When living up north in the past, I know vehicles didn't get as good of mileage in the winter. What was interesting though, as driving on the typical slight inclines/valleys on the interstate, the horse power claim may be legit as I would hear light growling as it was sucking more air; however, it never seemed to drop out of over drive and raise the rpm's as in the past. Seems to run and breathe smoother. 65mph = 1700 rpm's; 71mph = 1900 rpm's
Watching the "idiot gage - ECO", it appeared to "click up" better/faster going a bit slower around 1600 rpm's - maybe "best" economy range?

Attachment 13147
Original unit removed

Attachment 13148
Installed with cover removed

Attachment 13149
Fully installed - note the limited air space at the leading edge for better protection from engine heat

Install was a breeze - about 45 min. All in all, pretty pleased with it. It's only been installed for a couple days, so will keep you posted with additional mpg data.

Hope this was helpful

Greetings All!

This topic was posted on another forum... I am just trying to cover as much ground as I can!!

Tim

*****FACTORY KNOWN DEFECT: Rubicon Control Arm BUSHINGS*****

For those of you who have recently installed Rubicon Express lift; please know that Rubicon Express has experienced run of “Overseas” bushings which they deemed defective.

I am writing this post to vent my complete and utter disappointment with Rubicon Express. So, please understand that I am not saying that you should boycott Rubicon Express as I have, but please at least take into consideration my story before you buy another one of their products. I am a firm believer in that you can tell a lot about a company by how they act when things get rough.. I am also very “Customer Centric” in my beliefs as well.. If you go and beyond for a customer, you will have them for life.. Get complacent; they will be gone before you even know it.

Ok, enough of the babbling:

Last April I decided to purchases Rubicon Express control arms (Lowers and Uppers front and rear) because I was such a huge fan of their products and I felt that I would have a lift suited to my needs.. Man, I was sure correct on that; she drove like a dream and flexed way beyond my expectations.. For a little while anyway…..

All was going great until just after about 3 months of driving this Jeep on the new control arms, I discovered a clunk.. It would only occur when I would let out the clutch in 1st and 2nd gears (I even posted here with frustrations) from a complete stop. First I thought I was imagining things, but it increasingly became worse.. I could gingerly accelerate from stop without replicating the “Clunk,” but it was still incredibly frustrating.. So, I took it to where I have all of my work done (4Wheel Parts in Portland, OR) to have them diagnose the problem. I assumed it would be a motor mount or something of that nature because it was torque dependent. Well, they couldn’t figure anything out, so they just tightened up the control arms and let me go about my business.. My buddy has had this problem since his lift was installed (both vehicles done at roughly the same time) and in an act of frustration (and after several trips to 4wheel parts in Portland, OR); took his Jeep to another Shop in Portland. It took the other shop less than 5 minutes to diagnose that the Control Arm Bushings were completely shot.

Ah, the problem diagnosed, but here is where things get a little dicey.. My buddy spoke with 4Wheel Parts who said they knew about this problem from an internal memorandum, but decided to do nothing about it.. But, the person did say that they will order us a new set of bushings and everything will be good to go.. Everything is cool right?

Well, let’s focus on present day (Today 11/19/2009):

I was notified from 4Wheel Parts (Portland, OR) that I will be charged full labor to have these bushings reinstalled.. Keep in Mind that less than 3000 miles ago I paid almost $1200 for these control arms (installed) and I am now forced to either do the job myself, or eat $250 to have them done again. Normally and in many cases this wouldn’t be an issue if I was the cause of a product failing.. In this case; these bushings were part of a factory defect and Rubicon Express refuses to warrant labor or incidental costs as a result. I also must add that 4Wheel Parts in Portland, OR has offered nothing, but a full labor charge, so I am pretty much out in the cold here on both ends.. I do not posses the knowledge, ability, time, nor space to take on such a task.. There is a reason why I pay someone to do the major modifications to my Jeep and that is simply due to the aforementioned..

I appreciate the idea that this really isn’t a hard job to accomplish, but that is not the point.. The company that stands behind their product is a company I will choose to conduct business. I just had a recall done on my 2000 TJ for some manifold shield.. Did I have to pay the labor to have it installed???? No, Jeep took care of it because it was deemed a factory defect. I’m still happy with our friends at Jeep! They should have put a v8 in my JK Unlimited, but that argument is for another day..

Before this writing; I spoke with a handful of MAJOR Aftermarket 4X4 Part suppliers who all said basically the same thing: “Rubicon Express is very difficult to deal with when it comes to warranty.” I sure wish I would have known this going into the purchase of my control arms because I sure wouldn’t have purchased anything that resembled Rubicon Express. I had the pleasure of speaking with a very nice lady with one of the largest aftermarket parts suppliers in the industry who basically said that if everyone operated like WARN, the world would be a better place.. Huh, I wonder why Warn has such huge industry loyalty... I needn’t explain any further!

Thanks for reading!!

Tim

Hello all, I have a 1989 Wrangler YJ 2.5 TBI. It was running great and then it just shut down. Now I have no spark out of the coil and no fuel pump. If I run a wire to the pump from the batt the pump runs fine. We have changed the brain, coil, crank trigger but still nothing. On another board someone said to check the ASD relay I have no idea where it is to check or what it looks like. I have two black relays next to the batt and one bolted to the fire wall it is an oblong steel one with a mounting tab spot weled to it. I have power going to the brain/coil but nothing out of the coil. I need help. Thank you All. Steve in Cocoa
