alternator idiot light question

Recently added an alternator (Delco Remy 3-wire alternator) idiot light. When I shut off the engine the light comes on briefly - say for 1 second. Doesn't seem right to me. Other than that everything seems ok. The light is wired in series with the alternator "exciter" wire which goes to terminal 1 of the alternator. This exciter wire gets power from the wiper fuse which gets power from the ACC terminal on the ignition switch. Any comments are welcome. Thanks
