| worth it?
84 - CJ7 -has a half top - v8 RUNS GREAT! - missing front drive shaft, and could possibly need a TC, not sure due to no front shaft. Inside needs quite a bit of work. road worthy, and handles good. body has some rust, but not un-fixable, will need new tires soon, little tread left.
$1,500 a good price?

Well the V8 will have been put in later since they stopped offering the 304 in 82. So there is a certain amount of risk with inheriting an engine swap. However the price seems right. If it were me I'd do it.

looks good!!
if he'll let you disconnect the rear driveshaft and put it into 4wd and see if the front yoke thing spins as well as the back
I would go and get it, but try to get it for about 1,300 or maybe a little less
because of some rust and not knowing about the TC which is pretty much the whole point of a jeep to go off road in 4wd!
Make sure to drive it in all gears if you cant get to a highway put the TC in low and put the tranny in the higher gears, make sure all gears work and that the engine doesn't overheat, has oil pressure, etc.
know how much more it will cost you to fix it before you buy it! know what you want to do with it and what things you wil have to do. Do you want it to be a DD or parades, or weekend off roader , or weekend errand runner, or heavy duty off road. Realize that each thing will need different upgrades and may not fit the Cj you are looking at.
basicly know that you will be putting in at least 1K more into it even if you dont think there is anything wrong, something will always show up.

The jeeps looks pretty good but I agree with debruins. Make sure that what is there works correctly. Put it in 4 low and move around in forward and reverse to listen for rattles and clunks. Also, I would make sure you drive it enough to get a good feel for the transmission and let the motor to get to operating temperature to check vitals. Don't baby it while testing it out. Drive it like you would if it was yours so you won't have any surprises.
Good luck.
P.S. If it it doesn't work out, I've got a couple of CJ7's that might be available.

Looks like the oil pan is in the way of the front drive shaft?
