Want better gas mileage?

I'm buying the Max Energy Econ Power Programmer by Hypertech. It says it can boost mpg to 2 to 6 mpg. Anyways I was wondering once I program it to my TJ can I take it to my friends jeep and program his jeep too using the same programmer? If so, if anyone is interested, I'll program their jeeps 2005-2010 years only for a small price...

Seriously if you want better mileage park the Jeep and ride a bicycle. I honestly believe it is a waste of money. JMO

x2^^^ and I cant see a tuner doing the I6 and the V6... I don't believe those tuners... except for some of the ones I've seen on diesel trucks...

I have a hard time believing that a programmer/tuner could get almost another 100 miles out of a 15 gallon tank on the high end of your stats...

30 miles on the low side...maybe...but you can do this with smart driving. I just couldnt justify 200-300 dollars to get an extra 30 miles out of every tank.

If you were to install it and only get an increase of 2mpg...with 30 miles extra per tank...you just saved 8 dollars on that tank. At that rate, you would have to fill your jeep up 25 times (if it were a 200 dollar programmer) before you started making your money back in the programmer.

exactly. if it does what they say it does you'd eventually get your money back and save some cash. I'm just sayin I'd buy it and you guys thatd be interested could spot me 20 ducks and I'd program it. What's the risk? 20 bucks. just my opinoin

I don't believe you can use it on multiple vehicles, Im pretty sure when you program your jeep it saves that vehicles info and can only be used on others if you uninstall it from your jeep

Its a chip, so when you take it out, your jeep wont perform like it did with the chip in... DUH. and they are a waste for the TJ. they have SOME but not much affect on the JK. at least this is the popular concensus

Your buying a Programmer not a Chip . The Programmer will do some things but will not do anything for your gas mileage . I,v used them alot in sports cars and they work well . The chip is like 20 years ago .

on most programmers its only good for one vehicle, bc you have to save your stock settings onto the programmer before you can put a performance or mileage program into the jeep.

so if you try to put multiple vehicles on a programmer all your going to do is lose your stock setting, and then have to pay to get it reflashed to the stock setting when something goes wrong with the setting that you have on...

like i said thats how most programmers work idk about all of them...

i have a SC flashpaq on 07 jeep jk and its only good for one vehicle...

"another thing is that most chips or programmers are made for boosting you performance not you MPG's... however i have added about 300-350lbs to my jk and set my SC for mileage and now i get 18.2 mpg on the highway over the 18 that the owners manual says... but i do have other mods than just a programmer as well...

"hope this helps"

hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

You think a chip will help.. Seriously don't waste your money.. There is no and I mean NO bennifet to any kind of programer on a I6.. The only thing you can do is regear to match up with your tire size if you have larger then the stock tire size.

mmmmm doritos yum

So, looking at all this, buying a chip or programmer is not likely to help my JKU in any real fashion?
Mpg would be big, or on ramp acceleration but sounds like it's all voodoo.

Another thing you can do is stop eating out. Draw up a spreadsheet so that you know exactly where your money is going. Hopefully, you live in an apartment that is downstairs, faces the east, and has neighbors above, to your north, south, and west. It helps to be vegan so you can tolerate the heat better. My electric bills are about $20-25 during the summer. that is NOT a misprint. Drink water instead of soda pops. That way, you have more money for gas and not worry so much about gas mileage.

Well the 3.8 v6 is a different story.. Although you wouldn't see the gains promoted by the various Chips/programer companies, they do actually have some positive effect to that engine and quite a few JK owners here do run them and notice gains in gas millage or hp's depending on the setting of the programer.. I'd say start a thread in the JK tech section to get some opinions on them from JK owners just to see what the mass here who owns a JK has to say before buying one..

XJ is right, there have been good results for guys with jk's. Ill see If I can find the thread but there is one a guy who gained about 2 mpg with a chip alone. which really adds up.
