I'm in the south end of the county from Dixon. All farming communities around here. The only wheeling is when you go check on the cattle and cross a creek.

I think I heard something about letting Chicago become it's own state recently. I'm all for that.

Might as well, the difference between Chicago and east central is already like two different worlds.

Heck ya! Divide the state in half so us down south don't have to deal with all the laws that don't make sense down here (mainly gun laws)

I have lived in Chicago all my life. I have had a farm in in the middle of nowhere between Dixon and Princeton for over 24 years. I split my time there. I know the qualities of both lifestyles.
>In Chicago I can walk to the lake, to a play, to dozens of restaurants, pubs and grocery stores. If I drink too much I can walk home. That'a a good thing.

> At the farm, I can walk for hours before I get into the nearest town. When I get there, there is nothing to do, really. So I stock up on barbeque supplies, cold beer, and firewood. We work in the 8 acre yard and maintain the barn and machine shed. We mow the lawn and are restoring prairies. There are hundreds of acres of corn and beans too. At night we make a wompum fire, drink beers and watch the shooting stars. And that is a good thing.

I don't mind the Chicago Bashing. I live in both places so I get it. My job requires me to travel all over the world. South America, Asia, Europe, Canada and Mexico. As far as MAJOR cities go, Chicago is a contender. Former mayor Daily planted over one million trees. Every street in Chicago, even in the slummy parts, have nice trees and nice brick buildings. You would not believe the slums in Rio or in Mexico City. Except from Paris, I have not seen a major city with as many trees, gardens and parkways. I like NYC, and San Francisco, but Chicago is fun. Especially if you know your way around the cool neighborhoods. It is a city that has changed dramatically from the one it was in the early 70's. Keep off the freeways, out of the trendy tourist traps and out of the suburbs and you will meet people and have fun.

I have also spent thousands of days in New Jersey since our corporate HQ is there. If you are living in Jersey City or Industrial Northern Jersey and you are making pot shots about Chicago, I am betting you have never really spent any time there.

Thanks - I bought the Rubi in June. Liked it so much we replaced the other car with the Grand Cherokee. It is a 70th Anniversary. Needed something a little bigger to bring the pets out to the farm on weekends. THOUGH I must say, my Blue and Gold Macaw prefers riding shotgun in the Rubi!

Oh boy, here we go. Should I be nice or has the lack of coffee make me want to go all east coast on you. First off, pop shots to Chi town is a little defensive. Granted, the Cubs are well the Cubs, your Sox are the wrong color and da Bears haven't done much in football since '85. Don't worry though, I still watch games where they play Green Bay and always pray they beat the Packers. But Chicago is an awesome town with a ton of stuff to offer. I have told people out here I will drive in Chicago and visit Chicago any day of the week before NYC or Boston. The people for the most part are great, food is awesome, train watching is the best in the nation, and I still like to listen to Spike on WGN. Love the waterfront and yes you are right, it is a clean city. Not perfect by any means but a hell of a lot better than some cities that are half its size. That said, what WE are saying here is the politics in Chicago and the rest of the state are as different as day and night. What is good for Chicago is not good for the rest of Illinois.

Case in point. I lived in a great town called Winnebago, just north of Dixon. It was and hopefully is still a nice farming town. After I had lived there a while someone sold a farm and soon houses sprang up and new people from the Chicago area moved in. Now I'm not casting a bad light on everyone from Chicago, just telling you what happened. Soon these Chicago people moved in and started complaining about that funny smell, the loud country music, the dirt roads, the slow tractors, etc. Now I moved there because I wanted to get away from the Starbucks, Lexas driving, private school multi million dollar home people. I LOVE COUNTRY living, pick up trucks, country music and the kind hearted people of small town IL. Most of these new Chicago people were cold, snobby, better than you types who wanted to come in and change our town.

Last, if you had taken the time to either read the start of the thread or bothered to read my profile before sending your own "pop" shots, you would have read that I'm only in Jersey for training of my new job. My ancient by your standards 1997 TJ has a set of ILLINOIS plates on her. I flat out refuse to put Jersey plates on her. I live in a town I doubt you have heard of called DeLand Illinois and soon will be moving to Monticello Illinois. I am proud to say I have lived in Illinois for over 14 years. Am I a native? No, but all my friends in Illinois treat me like one and have never judged me. And I have lived in Illinois long enough to know, Chicago as nice as it is, is different than the rest of Illinois.

I grew up outside of the Boston area. I'm a diehard RED Sox, Bruins and Pats fan. Love my home state of NH, still have an accent like Adam Sandler when I get mad (this response is a good example) and love eating real fresh seafood for what you pay for McDonalds. Guess what though? Much as I love Boston, I HAVE spent more time in Chicago and probably any other city for that matter.

I'm normally an easy going guy, thanks to my years in East Central Illinois, but I hate it it when somebody assumes something about me, it pisses me off. I could do the same about you and your big city ideas and your brand new Jeeps, but instead I commented on your land in Dixon and your nice JK and new Grand Cherokee. Well as we say in New England, "Whatevah"

By the way, I'm only here in this Hell for another 3 months, then I can go home to my native Illinois girl and feel at home again.

Sweet, I go by Tilton on my way home from Jersey. I used to work in a town called Fithian. Bet you know where that is, probably one of the few.

New Jeep owner from Monticello, IL. It's been about 2 weeks, so far just doing some cake decorating. Replaced the chrome headlight bezels with black, painted the fender flares, and added fog light covers. Next in line is nerf bar/steps and grill inserts. It's been a lot of fun so far, I wouldn't ask my wife the same though. Been spending a lot of time in the garage tinkering.
