As a reminder, there's a meet tomorrow in shorewood. It's at 2pm, plus it should be nice and a little warm tomorrow.

Hey guys I'm out in the McHenry County Area, I've been looking for people to hang out with on some weekends for some jeep fun. I'll be picking up mine tomorrow cant wait, if any of you are in this area let me know, I don't know of any trails around here, I'm not looking for crazy stuff just fun trails or cruising around.

Go Cubs.....next year!

Either of those would be great. I just need to get some new(er) tires. If I had to drive in the Rubi, I wouldnt have any teeth left by the time I arrived.

I have seen those wealthier folks can trailer the rigs. I need to play the lottery.

Then I need a car with a hitch. Ahhh, the vicious circle. The jeep has a hitch for carrying around toys, yet, I would have to revisit theoretical physics to see how I could trailer a vehicle while that vehicle is actually towing. Interesting paradigm.

I am better off trying the lottery.

New IL Jeep owner and forum member

Nick from Troy, IL checking in! For those of you scratching your heads, Troy is about 25 minutes NE of St. Louis, obviously on the Illinois side of the Mighty Miss, between Belleville and Alton. I'm actually originally from Chicago, but joined the USAF when I was 18 and decided to move down here to Troy after I retired. I still get up to Chicago to visit friends and family every 2-3 months or so, soooooo....

I'm open to hooking up with any fellow Jeepers in Illinois, whether north in the Chicago area, central in the Springfield area, my area, or even south....where the best crappie fishing is (shhh, don't tell anyone).

Oh, and where the heck to people off-road in this state?

I havent been that way much, but, hell, it sounds like if it is a small town, take the first road out of town then turn left.

Here near Chicago, if you try that, you'll get shot.

Not a bad little town. I worked down in wood river for the better part of last year and stayed in Alton. Good times! To answer your question: no where! There's the cliffs up north by us but I prefer the badlands in Attica IN.

First time I ever heard of "the cliffs" was yesterday while browsing other threads. Looked it up on Google and, lo and behold, it's not far at all from where my mom lives (Coal City). I'll have to check it out sometime for sure. Question though: are the trails there simple enough to permit a fully stock JKU on them, or are they pretty rugged (cuz I haven't done a lift, new tires, or any other major mods yet)?

I also looked up the badlands (which I also had never heard of until last night), but didn't see much detailed info about them. Guess I'll have to do more research and get ready for a road trip!

I think the badlands is much more stock friendly. Theres plenty to do and always a way to stay out of big trouble. The cliffs can be fine but can get real hairy especially when it gets wet. I've only been to each tw

Not saying ya can't do it. It's not a bad run. Just when it gets slick is when it gets hairy! That's all. And yes the driver has alot to do with it

I'm brave and almost smart enough to try it out stock, so I think I will. I'm a first-time Wrangler owner, but I'm not a first-time wheeler. I use to go 4-wheeling all the time in my '88 Bronco II, which was nowhere near as capable as the JKU is, and I think I did pretty well overall...but it's been awhile. I will admit I did get stuck in it twice (once was VERY stuck...as in "three wheels completely submerged in a laaaarge puddle" stuck), but that was part of the fun and learning process. Learning what lines and angles work best and what the capabilities of the JKU are will be a learning process, but I'm smart enough to tread lightly in the beginning. In any case, thanks for all the info about the area! I appreciate it...and hope to see some of you out there some time!

Nick
