Morman Cricket Migration (Northern Nevada).
Miles of them and for those who never experienced it, the road becomes slick as ice and they end up coating your Jeep with a red "mud" that smells exactly like rotting fish.

Yuck. When I lived in Waco, we'd get tons of the black crickets. They'd coat the walls of the buildings and they stunk too. Probably not like the fishy smell, but bad none the less. Gross.

I'm not bug squeamish, but it was quite a sight. Locals said it can last a week or two. It explained the trailer-type blinking road sign that read: "SLOW! Slippery Road Ahead". Being from PA, I was thinking, Weird... Why would they have a sign like that in the dry Nevada desert? A couple of miles later I was in the thick of them.

They apparently cause a lot of accidents - especially for those on motorcycles.

The Steps: Black Bear Road

Starting down The Steps on August 3rd. Everything they say about the "pucker" level on this section is true! My wife's finger prints are still in the dash.
