This was the day that my Dad surprised me by saying 'You wanna drive?' It was 1979, I was 12 years old and it was a 77 or 78 CJ7. That's still one of the top 5 days of my life. We were back in the mountains on some dirt roads and I probably never got above 15 MPH, but every hair on my body was standing straight up. That was one glorious machine! Tell me about your first time...

that is awesome.. almost as awesome as those pants!

my story is not nearly as cool.. even though I wanted one since I was a kid, my first time driving a jeep was on my honeymoon when we rented one in hawaii about 5 years ago.

Growing up my neighbor had a white wrangler (don't remember if it was a CJ or YJ) but I've wanted one ever since..

Thats SWEET! My first time driving a jeep was actually a friends Jeep XJ and I was the designated driver. I had been wheeling all my life and had always wanted a Jeep but hadnt gotten one yet. Once everybody was a little buzzed I talked them into going wheeling. I filled the tank up and we hit the mud, snow and sand all in one night. She had never even put the poor thing in 4wd. Everyone was asking "are you sure we can do this?". I kept shaking my head and asking back "do you guys even know what a fu***ng Jeep is for?" They were all pretty impressed with the Jeep by the end of that night though.

That also ended up being my first Jeep. The starter went out and the girl thought the motor seized. So she went and bought another car. I got it for 200 bucks and put a $20 junk yard starter in it.

My first time driving a real Jeep (Wrangler/CJ type) was when I test drove my first wrangler... Not as exciting really..

My first time driving one was when I test drove the one I have. I LOVED it! I had always wanted one and I snatched this one up for a song!
Treat every situation like a dog, if you can't eat it or play with it, pee on it and walk away.

First time driving a jeep was a friends 03 rubicon. He bought it new and made it into a weapon for the trails. The jeep had a heck of a lot of money into it. I hated the clutch though. It would engage right at the end of travel, but it was always like that. I was at a party in the bush one night and he rolls up and asked me if I wanted to drive it... Of course I was going to say yes.... We left my truck at the party and went for a cruse around the mountain.

I got to play with the lockers and he drove it up some pretty technical trails.... I guess you would rate them as black trails if you go by the stuff out rausch creek. Back then I didn't know anything about jeeps and didn't really want one, but it knew that there was nothing that could compare to a wrangler off road....

About 2 years later I got my Sahara... And he actually let me take that rubi out one day to show a girl a good time.

I've only driven 3 wranglers in my life... That rubi, an 06 wrangler X and my Sahara.

I was 3 years old in a power wheels wrangler lol. I wheeled that thing hard in the back yard and woods. First time in a real jeep was when i turned 15 and 6 months (I'm 17 now) my parents set me up to be a Jeeper a long time ago.

It was 1995 or 1996 and I had some friends at my house to watch a playoff football game. We "tailgated" in my driveway...cooked on the grill, had some beers, threw the pigskin around...

It was cold and snowy and the roads were covered. At halftime I simply asked my friend (who had brought his Jeep) if I could take the Jeep for a spin. He complied and I took off much too fast for conditions. Not knowing anything at the time about 4WD, having never previously been exposed to driving Jeeps at all, I spun the thing completely around in about 30 seconds. I almost took out a neighbor's mailbox.

Sheepishly, I drove the Jeep back and parked it in my driveway. I didn't drive another for about 17 years.

I was 13 when my dad started letting me drive his cj around the farm and gravel roads (and through the creek and the woods when I could get away with it!).
As it turns out, I'm not a 'real' jeeper
