How I spent my day...

My wife and I spent the day at Assateague Island today and had a great time, doing nothing. The weather was great and the sights were amazing.

The wildlife was abundant from the famous wild horses,

to pelicans and other birds...

...and dolphins.

Hurricane Earl left a huge piece of driftwood on the beach.

The waves were spectacular.

Even my Jeep wanted to go for a swim.

Can you take drift wood if you find it? Some places it is not allowed.

You did just last week. Oh. You mean a real beach. One with sand. Me too.

Yes, you can. However for that particular piece, driftwood is a misnomer, that was practically a whole tree.

I have seen that video and it was certainly in the back of my mind! That fence is the MD-VA border. VA isn't as friendly to vehicles on the beach. MD has a 12 mile stretch you can drive on so naturally we were at the 12th mile. We went early to get that spot right at the end.

I was sitting in my chair enjoying a cigar when I looked as far as the eye could see down the VA end of the beach. I saw a small object that appeared to move. I watched it for a while until it started to appear that it was a person moving. 40 minutes later a guy appeared and stepped through the cable. We ended up having a nice little chat. He hiked 11 miles from the VA visitors center. It took him 4 hours. I offered him some water, but he had a full supply of everything in his backpack. We talked a little and he headed back.

I love wild horses

although last time I tried to pet a baby and the mom almost trampled me
There is a picture of me at the exact moment I see the mom charging me. Let's just say I was screaming and running as fast as I could!
