Bmw r75/5 1972

Still in original condition, starts easy, rides nice, blows a little smoke but at 39 years that's expected.

My 2004 Kawasaki Ninja 500EX. Sold it 2 years ago to get the Jeep. The Ninja wasn't quite useful during the winter months.

A couple pics of what my bike has to endure. I've got some pics of her in her race plastics, but they're in print form. I'll see if I can scan them and get them to my Photobucket collection. Here she is in street plastics. Full Ohlins suspension front and rear. WAY too many mods to list. Everything has been tweaked. She was stock for her first week of life (actually, just 6 days after I bought her new) before she was disassembled and the tweaking began.

My weekends are now spent either flying or going to gunshows. I haven't been on the R1 for a while now. I need to get her out and blow out the cobwebs sometime soon.

I'll let you know the next time we head out to Heartland Park. Spring time is about the only time when it's comfortable to ride in this state. The summer is no fun in full leathers on a hot track. Granted, you can leave the tire warmers on the trailer in the summer, but it gets God-awful hot in full leathers.

That R1 is for sale, by the way. If you know of anyone out your way with a death wish, let me know. Maybe we can work out a deal....

Track day costs vary from track to track. Also, look at becoming a member of the local motorcycle club that puts on the track days. Usually, a mc club will rent out the entire track for a day, then collect the $$ from the riders who want to ride. It usually is cheaper for members of the club compared to just someone who wants to come in and ride. Call your local track or go to their website to see if any open trackdays are scheduled for the near future. Also, some tracks will host weekend race schools. I attended two different race schools (one was a weekend, one was 4 days) when I lived in southern Florida and I learned a TON from the professionals. Rules will also vary from track to track. Some will require your bike to be safety wired, some won't. Most, if not all, will make you tape your lights. Some will make you drain your coolant and replace it with either water or an additive called "Water Wetter". Check your track for the rules, then you can set up your bike prior to going to tech. The tech inspectors will be MUCH friendlier to you if your bike is ready to go when you get to their station.
