My first Jeep

I was so excited to stumble across this picture today. I thought it was lost forever. This was my 1980 CJ7 Renegade. It's not the best picture, but I'm so glad I found it.

I just had an idea. As soon as the weather warms up again, I'm going to recreate the picture with my Wrangler. Minus the head band of course. My wife said I'm never allowed to wear one again. Finding a Dodge Omni to park next to might be tough also, but I'll do the best I can.

No stickers, but there's a good chance it was playing in the under dash 8 track player!

Did you have to install it upside down to keep the tape and head aligned like I did?

That, sir, is an awesome pic.

It was a CJ7 that I fell in love with eons ago at the age of 13, and swore to myself then I'd own a Jeep someday.

In 1982, I was 3 years old.

But now having a 4-year-old, a 2-year-old, and a 1-year-old, I can assure you that I would've found the Jeep very cool. Though maybe even I would suggested you lose the headband . . . .

I want to see the restaged, present day version. Socks, headband, track suit--the whole deal. Oh, and the Jeep too I suppose.

All the time! I sold it when I moved to MD in late '88. In order to get it past MD inspection it needed a ton of work. Some of the items they listed simply pissed me off. One of the items on the "fail" list was that the wipers didn't lay down off the windshield. It didn't matter that they were designed to stay up. I figured it would take me about 3 months to do the work and restore it.

A guy from southern MD bought it and asked me to deliver it. It was about a 90 minute drive, but I agreed so that I could have a farewell drive.

I often wonder if he ever restored it or even if it's parked in the same place next to his garage, rusting away.

A year or so ago I saw one that could have been it's twin. My heart raced, but it was gone before I could get to the other side of the road where it had been parked.

Tom,

I was at work and my first thought was - Is this a jeep advertisement for an era gone by? - I began chuckling but had to subdue it so as not to draw attention. Then I had a flashback to those days, shoulder length hair, distant stare, and imagining what it would have been like to have a jeep....what person that age doesn't pine for one. It was not to be but I certainly appreciated the journey down memory lane. Thanks.

Sounds like you have a potential upcoming project. Might be worth the drive by just to see if it's there.

There's no way I would ever find his house again after all these years. I'm not even sure what town it was.

I'm pretty sure that this was just before a softball game with some guys I worked with. Our office was in Hackensack at the time, so this was somewhere in that area. It might have been Bergenfield, but I'm really not sure.

It very well could have been. I'm not completely sure where I was yesterday let alone almost 30 years ago.
