My first paint experience

I've never been a painter, nor planned to ever do painting, but I said why not?

Below are pictures of me painting my grey door vinyl's to match the rest of my dash. (I know a lot of people on here don't like the tan interior, but I don't mind it).

Getting the window roll-down handle off was the biggest obstacle.

Taped up the "basket area" to keep it black inside, and taped the weather stripping. (yes I stuffed paper towels inside the basket, it was much easier).

1st coat

4th coat

I now have 8 coats on, and plan on installing when I get home from work. I will post pictures of them installed.

That stuff works great. Looks good dude. You can also get paint/dye match stuff for carpet I used to use when I detailed repo's for a car lot.

My carpeting all matches the dash. I switched from half doors to full doors, and the vinyls didn't match so it was painting time!

Thanks guys!

Rust-o-leum Vinyl & Fabric. 2 cans worth. I have a backup can of Duplicolor Vinyl & Fabric, but I won't be needing it. Might hold on to it in case of a need for touch ups.

In case people want to know. I dry sanded with 400 grit sandpaper (lightly) to rough up the vinyl. Washed it down with hot soapy water (dial to cut any grease/oil)...dried, and started painting. The first 2 coats I painted as lightly as possible.

Nice job!

Another thing I do when cleaning before paint is to wipe it with a bit of rubbing alcohol or kerosene on a rag to remove any soap residue or dust... and, it evaporates really fast...

I was thinking about doing that, but couldn't think of what I wanted to use. So I said f%&* it, cracked open a bud light, and got to work.

All done and installed. The window roll-handle pins are A LOT easier to put in than they are to take out, fyi.

Looks great man! Nicely done!!
I used the same Rust-o-leum fabric and vinyl paint to make my upper door skins match my new Trek-top. The flat black color matches so well nobody realizes that the skins didn't come with the top until I tell them. So far (about 2 weeks, so still early-on) it looks fantastic...at least they look good sitting in the garage while it's so gorgeous outside!!

Haha very nice! Unfortunately, the color doesn't match my dash exactly. I went to my dealer and they gave me a can for free that will match. I plan on re-painting soon.
