Post office Jeep?

Was out aimlessly driving around. Saw this coming from Whitney coming back to Waco through some back roads. Just had to turn around and take a picture. Was hoping to see a for sale sign on it.

That's a DJ. USPS used those before they upgraded to the little box vans they use today. Most were right hand drive, 2wd with 4cyl engines. I still see them used for popcicle trucks, and rural mail carriers.

Don't you remember? Or is it because I'm older than dirt? lol

I wanted to get a lot closer to take some better pictures, but there was an obviously lived in house just to the left out of the picture, in fact the driveway I pulled up in. Didn't see a for sale sign so wanted to respect their privacy and get in and out.

I vaguely remember these being used a while back. Sure wouldn't mind at least test driving a local right hand drive one. Especially a manual, would be a once challenge at first.

akyj - pics don't show, but I know that jeep seen it on a few webpages.

mykll - the odds of you finding a manual are almost zero... most people that mod em enough to convert to stick wind up modding them enough to not really be a postal anymore.

They are super light, super thin, and the suspensions are mostly so old that it makes the whole thing ridiculously unstable. Mine has a 232 I6 in it, and even with over 300k miles on that engine, it's very quick due to being so lightweight. it does crazy well offroad even being 2WD, also due to the lightness of it. Mine has flopped on it's side twice offroading, so it's plenty capable enough on the trail to get into trouble

The one in your pic is completely unmodded... they usually sell for under $1000 (paid $400 for mine... spent more on diamond plate to mod it with than I paid for the jeep originally ) they also are getting really hard to find in running condition, because nobody wants to spend money on their "work jeep" to keep it running, they got poor quality "shade tree" repairs done on em (my engine was welded to the frame... spent a week fabbing mounts to un**** that one) , they got driven for bajillions of miles, and being 2WD, most Jeep guys just don't want to hassle with them.

I'd ask the guy about it... either he loves it and will likely be glad to tell you all about it, or he hates it and will consider lowball offers on it

I'll certainly tell ya anything you wanna know about em... had mine for about 10 years, and I love it so much, that when I went shopping for a JK, I insisted on a right hand drive...

That looks awesome! Reminds me of a police vehicle, or old school paddy wagon! Great info too don't really know much about them other than the basics, RHD, 2WD.... and yeah that's about it.

The only thing about doing up and knocking on the door, in a lot of rural places like this in Texas, some people tend to come out with a gun in your face and decide to pull the trigger or not.

I like that post office emblem on the side of yours AKYJ. Maybe soon it will be a little more of a collector's item.
