Sorry BANGER, very sorry, i trashed your old jeep.....

Well, it was 6:30 am Sunday morning, I was on my way to my patents for breakfast. I had my shoulder completely reworked three weeks prior, all tendons re-Anchored and a shredded rotator patched up. I am going through a divorce which is a great relief but I hadn't been sleeping well. I was going down the road, down hill, I fell asleep and when I clipped the telephone pole I woke up......two an awkward dead silence. I was flying through the air I reckon? I tagged a huge tree about ten feet up it, I uprooted that tree, the jeep started flipping violently, I was not wearing a seatbelt, I took out another big tree. Every flip I was thinking man I hope I don't hit something that kills me.....when it all stopped and it was quiet again I ran like mad? I was in such shock? It was a terrible experience, I re-tore my left shoulder as well as destroying my right shoulder and I broke my upper left arm.....I live jeeps, yet I always thought of them as kind of un-safe? This accident proves that theory totally wrong. My insurance check is in the mail and I swear I will always own a jeep and when my young guys start driving they will be in jeeps........this little red wagon saved my life! Are the newer body jeeps as resilient as the older ones? This was a stock roll cage, it twisted it up, but it stayed very in tact? I am a lucky dude.....or I only got 8 lives left? Thanks to jeep and to the big man upstairs!!!!

I wound up facing back up the hill, I found a coil spring out of the front on the opposite side of the road.it was a very violent crash. I was probably running 45-50mph when I left the road.....

Glad you're safe. I know what it's like to fall asleep behind the wheel. That's no fun.

^ Ditto those man...

holy crap. Glad you made it out ok, thanks for taking the time to share the story. Reminds us all how fast things can go to crap in a hurry! It only takes a second to completely change the lives of yourself and your family.

Hope you heal fast, and yeah, as bad as it hurts inside to let the Jeep go, there are more out there and theres only one of you!!!

I'm surprised so many replies? Yes, I am damn lucky. If you have an iPhone or other smart phone open maps, turn satellite view on and go to 6100 block scottsville rd, floyds knobs Indiana.....go to the street view and you will see the telephone pole that I clipped. I am getting the check Monday and hopefully I'll find a rental house until my nasty ass soon to be ex-wife gives me my half. Then I will push for more time with my sons and more time sleeping in a bed. I really don't mind I I spend all of the damn money from the jeep for now? I am going to buy one on a lot so I will make payments and get exactly what I want! Wifey wouldn't let me get a rubi when i was looking, but I loved my X. It was a slick ride it was extremely well taken care of and I don't care that I trashed it. I am grateful to have my new lease on life. Anyone own a Car lot with a cherry 03-06 rubicon?? Maybe 15-20k$.

Thanks Dude! Most people didn't like my angry eyes on the jeep. Banger had them on there when I purchased it and I cell unloved with them. I thought about taking them off, but I figure ol red-X needs them for protection in the junk yard! Right?

Which is why I go to bed early every chance I get, and don't drive at night on trips. I find a camp site or a room before sunset, period. I hate that feeling of falling asleep because I could end up in your situation. No thanks!

I was fortunate not to fall asleep over the years when I was on the road all the time. The hard part is, yeah, everyone wants to take a break and sleep but you get these time contraints and due to lack of sleep your not thinking clearly when traveling. For example, one particularly challenging trip was to stay awake on my way home to Caseville MI from Columbus OH. I was super tired but had very limited chances for rest.

These were my three choices basically,

1. I was further north in MI than any hotel or motel, all back roads for the next 2 hours to get home. I think to myself, shoot if I'd have known it would be snowing like hell and I'd be this tired, I would have stopped back in detroit an hour and 1/2 earlier... nothing but farms for two hours.
2. It was winter, about 15 degrees out and blowing like hell. Not to good to pull off on the side of the road and risk sleeping in the cold or getting nailed by a snow plow on a county road...
3. Do whatever it takes to stay awake and make it through the last two hours, get to sleep in my own bed, with my wife, nice and warm, no worries, etc...

Yeah, I chose number 3. Any trips with less than 2-3 hours to go are when it gets tough to decide what to do. Spend an hour dinking around with getting checked in and settled somewhere? Or, be home in 2 hours. It probably wasn't the best thing to do but I kept a bottle of caffiene pills in the center console back then. Only for the long trips, I'd take 1 or 2 to help stay alert even though I knew I should get some rest.

Choices get limited very quickly when your out in the middle of nowhere and just want nothing more than to be home after weeks of travel.

Like said, I was fortunate not to have something like this happen to me. And back then, I was in either a 93' ranger or a 98' escort. Safe, but not the safest by any means.

I was taking a super long trip? Fifteen minutes to my patents to get some bacon in my belly. As for not wanting to be in my situation? I'll be just fine. I got a 06 x automatic this time otherwise same as my last jeep......except this one has 33,000 miles on it, it still smells new! I love it, it doesn't even rattle yet!!! Haha!

So, I believe due to a higher belief of mine, in which, everything happens for a reason; I couldn't be happier than I am in "my situation"...... Please guys don't hate on my auto, two real bad shoulders with a poor chance of recovery, I figured I better play it safe for now and have both arms freed up for the steering.

holy SH*T man im glad your safe. pretty crazy how in one moment everything can change.
jeeps are safer than most people think. sure they flip easy and you can take them apart in less than 20 mins from the top down lol. but they are one of the only steel vehicles left on the road. well at least my tj is not sure about the newer ones. idk i love my jeep shes saved my life in different ways.
