Hooking up to a big shark in a kayak is crazy! That damn thing will pull you around for an hour.

I fish off a wilderness systems redfish 12. I hooked a tarpon once. It pulled me around for almost 2 hours before I could get it next to the boat.

Man, i have been fishing the gulf for 10 years from a kayak and have yet hooked a tarpon. I know they are out there, just a matter of time.

I see them the most mid to late summer hugging the sandbars looking for bait fish.

thanks Tery and hbankst. Wahoo tipped the scales at 65 pounds. That was down in Turks and Caicos. Right now I'm in the market for modifications to set up the new JKU Rubi with the same stance and functionality as the TJ. I already have the bumpers and the beach pass. Just a matter of lift and wheels/tires. Unfortunately something in the TJ's suspension broke so I need to fix that before the JK project can begin.

Anyway, heres some recents from the past week:

Estimated 80 pound cownose ray on the hook. I got it in the wash, grabbed the leader to make it a catch, and cut the line. I had a good friend of mine get stung by one last year. After hearing his story, I won't mess with them anymore.

Anyone else here into spearfishing? While I have been spearing for 2 years I just bought my first gun, a Mares Phantom Carbine 75. I used to borrow a friend's JBL but he relocated to Florida. I bought my gun in Florida but haven't killed anything with it yet. Using the old JBL, I have some bergalls (which I use for bait when I'm out on the boat) and a few tog under my belt.

I do when i get the time. In shore snorkeling i prefer a Hawaiian sling our poke pole. I have a Shorty jbl and a home made 7 ft gun i use when i am diving.

Just an all around great day of fishing. Took my boy out & he got his first flounder. He couldn't really reel it in so he just backed it up on the beach. Caught a few other species, but the flounder is what we were after.

My boy had such a good time he wants to go out again tomorrow. Not so sure I can oblige that request since I have to work, but I just might.

I should be smiling

Even had time to finish up my rod holder project.

Today my heart sunk, had something on my hook that snapped a 30lb test line while I was letting it drag out and had already fought it for 15min.... I have no idea what it was, but I wanted to eat it, haha, must have been pretty big tho.
