Nice. Fishing from the yak is awesome. Only reason I don't do it anymore is because I sunk mine... Twice lol. I'll probably get back into it one day as I've always wanted the experience of getting towed around the ocean by a big striper

You sunk it twice? That's impressive, especially if it was a sit on

Two different kayaks. Sunk my good one. Ocean Kayak sit on top. The hull was punctured, I tried to repair it but the patch job didn't last top long. Won the second sit on top kayak. Some cheap POS. It went down the first time I had it out. Fortunately it was right by my house.

On another note, my friend and I went on his boat yesterday. We were going to go fluking but ultimately decided to run to the inshore bluefin grounds. Ended up going 0-2 on tuna and 7-15 on brown shark. The first bluefin was on for 45 min. It was on my friends fluke setup. 20 pound braid and 20 pound leader. The 180 pound swivel broke. I got some of the fight on film. Is there a way to post video on here? For a split second I got color on video. After watching the vid, according to my friends who regularly fish tuna, the fish was every bit of 54" and 100 pounds. While we were not able to boat the fish, I'd still say we did quite well for having no tuna experience between both of us and it was by far the most fun day I've had in quite a while.

I'd like to try my hand at tuna. Probably easiest to post the vid on youtube & link it.

Tunas are a blast. Big investment (at least up here anyway) but worth it in my opinion.

Due to it being fluke tournament season, my efforts have been in fishing for them rather than running offshore for the pelagics. Here's some from the last few trips:

Fish up to 7.25 pounds. The injured fluke was from a bluefish bite. The bluefish became bait for a high 6 pound class fish

Between work, my Jeep, and my girl any time I have left is dedicated to fly fishing for trout. Here's some pictures from last summer. I fished most of the legendary NY Catskills streams in addition to my local waters. Also spent some time in Nevada fishing the Truckee River for big brown trout and rainbows. Pictures from last summer below...

I just inherited all my grandpa's fishing gear. I'm not 100% sure what he has, since I haven't actually received it yet. But I was looking into a new reel. His is probably 30+ years old and, just in case it's beat up, I'd like to know what my options are. It's a spinning real, but I'm interested in a bait reel. Any suggestions or information for me as to what to look for?

I can only wish we had those near me! All I've ever fished for was jack pickerel and walleye. I tried big mouth bass once but I only ended up with one about three inches long

It really depends on the rod you are planning to use and the type of fishing you want to do. If you are wanting to do some bait fishing (Jeremy Wade style) Look into Okuma bait caster spin reels. I bought one of these for live bait fishing. (I use mine for catfish and stripped bass night fishing mainly) Its really nice for the money. It has a 2 stage drag and works great. It comes in a variety of sizes too.
