I am from the eastern side of Berks. I have been a jeep owner for 2 months now and because of work, I haven't had the chance to muddy mine up either. I have been thinking about heading to Mt. Penn area, or down near the Titus Plant. I know there are plenty of fire trails on the mountain, just not sure how restricted the access is. Might take a ride up this week to scope things out and to fill the tank (herd gas is $3.15/gal in Exeter).

I am not kooking for anything to extreme.. considering my jeep is still, unfortunately, stock. But not for to much longer... I have heard of rausch creek from I used to dirtbike at tower city.. I didn't know rausch had jeepin spots... and pits meaning mud pits, sand pits and maybe some coal pits.. some nice hill climbs at TCTRI (tower city trail riders inc) really nice place.. 3.15 in Exeter?! Maybe I will have to cruise out that way.. if there is anything nice out there let me know!!!

I'm out in western Berks,, you're not going to find anything up in the Mt Penn area, all closed off.. Just north of Tamaqua is about the only legal free area I know of that is near us, and you could spend a couple of days exploring there...
Raush Creek is a play for pay private park, and very cool, even for stockers.. Bald Eagle State Forest is the next nearest place to go,,, ( 120 miles ). Pm me about the area north of Tamaqua if you're interested..

Also in Berks County, I frequent Hazleton area so I'm down for some light trails until I get my lift and tires on.

There are a ton of places in the Pottsville (schuylkill county) area. Reading Anthracite Coal Company has a lot of reclaimed mine land, you can wheel there with a permit for about $100. You don't necessarily need a permit, but just in case you break something or get hurt, it keeps you out of a ticket. Right at the 901 pub in Pottsville there is a trail entrance the goes back for awhile. Some light offroading, a little rocky, and a mud pit area. PM me if you want some more details. Might be going out there tomorrow or Sunday.

Don, you gave me that tamaqua info months ago and it was greatly appreciated, even though I only made it up there once for like 2-3hrs. We should get a berks jeepers trip together to go up there

Just found this thread and have been looking for some local cheap/free places to wheel. I'm in Temple, so I'd be interested in any groups heading north.
