Default CA State Park Closures

With Cali's budget crisis we get State Park closures. You may already know of your local parks so here is a list of all so you don't arrive at a "CLOSED" sign on your vacation. 233 out of 279 parks will be or are closed.

Wow. I think I'm going to move this to Land Use. It's useful information for everyone.

I was going to put it over there but didn't. Be sure and note the closures are temporary. They (the state) just do not have the money to run them right now.

^ So true. They don't need to close parks. They need to find some people who can help maintain them for free. Ie clean up what mess you make!

It's a shame it has to come to this. The California Parks have been mismanaged for years. Instead of coming up with a solution, it's easier for them just to cut the budget and close them. Anyway, here is the latest solution to the problem...

On Monday, June 15th, the Budget Conference Committee voted to eliminate $70 million in General Fund support for the state park system for the 2009-2010 fiscal year. As an additional action, the committee also voted to adopt the State Park Access Pass and develop a dedicated funding source to keep California's state parks open. The State Park Access Pass would institute a $15 surcharge on vehicle license fees of non-commercial vehicles, in order to provide Californians with free day-use access to state parks, and generate much-needed revenues for the state park system.

If you want to take action to help keep the parks open, visit this website...

Yup, it is a damn shame. And places like the CBD, Sierra etc.... are loving it. They thrive off of government mis-management.

Pismo State Beach is on the list, but Oceano Dunes SRA is not, so you will still be able to Jeep and camp on the beach. The parks are all open now and this weekend won't be a problem. They will keep things open until they have a budget...which the way things are going won't be until next year. Anyway it sounds like they have a solution to keep them open if Arnold doesn't veto it like he has threatened.

^^^ You're right, they will keep only the parks that make a profit open. Pismo makes a great profit.
