HEY So cal guy/gals (Big Bear Trail Recovery Thread)

Hey guys, As most of you know our trails got hammered in the big bear area due to the Butler 2 fire. I have been in contact with the director of OHV and we are setting up a trail clean up day. We want to open up the area asap and we need your help to get it going. I have already recruited several members from other sites. In Mid october i will be contacting the OHV director again so we can finalize dates and the job/trails we will be overhauling.

Please post up if your interested. I will get you all info as it comes to me. Thanks guys

I'm interested. I'm not available the weekend of Oct 20th, but am flexible about any other dates.

Rawk, this is an excellent way to keep your trails open. The communities involved in wheeling them should be the ones to help reconstruct and remove debris. Kuddo's to you for helping to put it together. I am going to sticky this message at the top of the forum so that it will not get lost.

Once we get a date I can confirm. But if I am free - I am there.

just a question... wouldn't the fire have "cleaned up" most of the debris?

I think, regardless of debris, if you have a trail "clean up" then the trail can be opened up again much sooner for 'wheeling.

with the rain and 50mph wind gusts we had the trails are gonna be jacked after that fire. fallen trees and land slides galore.

As the others have stated. After a fire any kind of trails are virtually unrecognizable. We are dealing with the same thing here in AZ. A fire went thru a trail and they closed it off. If it wasn't for us being so persistent in re-cutting this trail it would just stay closed.

Any news on this? I am assuming that the fires are making plans difficult.

Currently ALL San Bernardino National Forest trails are closed. Until the fires are stopped, I am sure we won't know anything.

Yeah, I would imagine there won't be any recreating going on up there for quite some time until all the smoke clears and the smoldering grounds are put out permanently.

However after all of this is all said and done there is going to be an even bigger need for trail repairs and working thru agencies to put things back to normal.

If I can make it ill be there. It took too long getting some of the trails back after the Willow Fire in 99.

You could use those bulldozers to your advantage if you are wanting to perhaps 'build up' a few areas on the trails. Perhaps even add some rocks. Those trails can serve as a fire break line if properly maintained.

May be worth asking them about it...

Hi Kevin, we have a meeting scheduled for tomorrow night, January 16th.
This will be held at the Corona Sizzler exit I-15 at Magnolia just south of

and give us your input. We get together at 6 PM-7PM to eat and enjoy each
others company. The meeting starts at 7 PM. If you can't go, maybe you
can ask another person your associated with to attend.

Thanks a bunch Kevin!

so if anyone wants to head out let me know, I dont know for sure if i can make it but im gonna try.

FINALLY!!!!!!!
April 19th 2008. put it on your calendar.
I asked about helping on the harder trails up there. and i also asked about further detail on time and place of meeting and gear needed.

Ive been waiting for this. I wasn't able to attend the meeting due to the short notice but im still in contact with the OHV manager.

"We had over 100 people there representing 38 clubs. Good meeting. We have
> an Earth Day Project scheduled for April 19th. This will be to do
> maintenance on the roads in the burn areas."
