Southwest Louisiana

So I been looking for trails or legal places to ride anywhere from Lafayette to Beaumont. I have been to the park in alto but only on four wheeler. So if anyone knows of any trails or clubs in this area I would appreciate it.

Have you ever driven from sea rim park to Galveston along washed out hwy 87?
I found by accident by wanting to take my new 07 sahara on a road trip so packed up the family and decided to take scenic route to new schlitterbahn park. So I googled a nice route thru pecan island, Rockefeller state park and westward. Hmm what is this a hwy that follows coast to Galveston so I plotted it. I get to sea rim state and unbeknownst to me there's a sign. "Road closed only off-road vehicles allowed" or something like that..
So it sounded like a challenge for an inexperienced off roader and his family. And it was but also was very cool.. You're actually driving on the beach the entire way and had to pick and hit your crossing over washed out areas. We stopped several times to photograph pelicans , sea gulls and crabs. Picked beach glass ( the jewelry quality glass that's been polished by the surf for no telling how long) , coconuts, wondering from what tropical island they came, and wishing I had a cargo carrier for all the driftwood. It was an awesome day. I always wanted to get a few jeeps and go back with boogie boards and tow ropes. But that was 07' and maybe its too eroded now but that may be another challenge.
Btw when we were wondering if we will ever make it to the end we ran across sunbathers, unfortunately these bathers were nude and not the baywatch variety! told my daughter to cover her eyes and we drive thru lol .. Found out later bolivar beach is an unofficial nude beach..

As for Kisatchie, I am from that area and they do not allow Jeeps on any trails. I went to the park office and I was told that 4x4 vehicles are not permited due to trail abuse. I tried to talk them into letting me gain access to a old service trail so that my buddies and I could to clean it up and make it accessible to ONLY Jeeps but had no luck. I will be going back to the office within the next few weeks to see if they have maybe changed their minds about the situation.

Will do. I will probably go during Easter holiday break from college and speak to them again. If they do decide to let me gain access to a old servic trail would anyone be interested in doing a Tread Lightly maintenance project on the trail? This would prove to the park that we arent there to demolish and abuse the land but rather enjoy the ride.

Okay and thanks. Alot of people in this day in time wouldnt bother in helping on a project like this. I will get on Tread Lightly's website since they are a respectable organization and see what I would have to do to get the ball rolling. Hopefully they would be able to share some insight and maybe show some support to the cause.

I am not involved with a Jeep club either. I cant find any in the area and I really dont want to drive to Lafayette just to attend a meeting. I will try to see if there is a way around that or we just create an club/chapter/affiliation which would probably be best since we dont have one in SW La.

Yeah when I first joined the forum, I went and read the thread that yall started. From my viewpoint it looked like the concept just ran out of steam. Same here though. I would be more than willing to join or create a club for the area. The SW needs one. I am surprise that there isnt one already because alot of people drive Jeeps in this area.

I hate to hear that and hope he recovers quickly. My mom had open heart surgery and took her a while to recoupe.

Also, there is a "mud truck/buggy" club in Deridder. They have a track near the Deridder Rodeo Arena. Not sure about the race dates because I havent been but a few people said its pretty fun to watch.

Race my Jeep? No, my 4 banger would get smoked by the competition! lol. I heard it was fun to watch and was just letting you know about those particular races in case you wanted to attend.

I agree the 2.5L sucks but I got it for dirt cheap. It was my dad's farm/hunting vehicle and was highly abused. There has been many bales of hay and horse feed thrown in the back of it in the past decade. Hell it hasnt had a top on it since Hurricane Rita turned a tree limb into a missile and hurled it through the soft top. lol My daily driver is a TJ Golden Eagle edition and the 4 cyl. is my project Jeep. Its crappy on the road but havent had a problem yet on trail runs.

As for power is concerned, the JK is top notch. I bought a used JK in 2008 but it was a lemon. Everything that could go wrong did with that particular one. I havent heard any complaints from other JK owners though. I traded my JK on the Golden Eagle edition. Now I am just waiting for the Jeep truck to come out then trading both in for it. I hope the truck has more of the design and functionality of the Nukizer 715 model than Gladiator model.

Here is a link to some info about the Nukizer if you havent seen it. Its awesome

Good news!!! I spoke to Kisatchie park rangers today about permitting Jeeps to trails. I was told that it may be possible to gain access to some old service trails but the trail rules would be very strict and someone, other than the park rangers, would have to perform routine trail maintenance. I will be setting up a meeting with the Kisatchie Recreational Director next week to discuss more thoroughly about the trail rules, vehicle regulations, and see what needs to be done to get the ball rolling.
