trails in ct

Okay, so I've had my stock '04 TJ for about 2 weeks now and I want to start modding her to allow me to have fun offroad as well as use her as a daily driver. From what I've read on the forum I should do some light trailing first to decide what I need to work on. So, my question is does anyone know where in Connecticut I can do some light trailing?

Try joining a club they/we know where to go in NewEngland.
People are not going to post locations of trails in the Northeast.

Agreed. Wheelin is real limited in CT and what few places there are, are gaurded by the clubs. I suggest checking out northeastjeep.org and there is also the Great American Jeep Rally coming up soon in Somers CT and most clubs will have booths there for you to check out and shop around.

if you are interested in doing mild fire roads and maybe a couple mud holes you can go to nepaug state forest, if you stay on the roads its legal along with some areas down by the river. where in CT are you located?

I'm hoping to join the Jeep club sometime in the future, but I'm only 16 at the moment and just got my first Jeep There's places to go in Massachusetts. It's a drive but I'd rather take trips and have more areas to wheel.

Not true the roads are and have allways been open. but you can not drive on the powerline or off the line.

If you are looking for a nice rocky old road try it. again stay on the roads only and off the powerline.

nepaug park has taken a beating by the town, ive heard from many people they are trying to make the roads and trails more accessible to most vehicles now, aside from the few major jeep spots it seems they ruined alot. but aside from there, theres not to many places in ct. used to be a good one for light rock crawlin in new britain, but last time i was there the town barricaded the entrances with mounds of dirt and rock (easy to get over to go in not so easy to get out) crushed my gas tank coming out.

Please do not do this! There is a reason why the town put the dirt there.

well, originally i was told people had just dumped the dirt there, because it wasnt the only spot with the dirt, it was not until after the fact i found out it was the city. considering it is off of a road with almost no houses and many people have used it as a dumping ground, and i had been there prior to the dirt. i thought nothing of it. needless to say i havent been there since then, which was over a year ago.

if you are looking for just a basic dirt/gravel road to get your feet wet there is Shenipsit state forest:

Trail map of Shenipsit State Forest - ellington ct

Nothing serious but after rain some of the ruts in the road fill up and you can go puddle jumping. I would recomend going through when its dry first becasue some of the ruts are really deep (mostly on the side of the trail).

And its worth going up just for the view from the tower at the top of the hill/mountain, especially in the fall when the leaves are changing.

I'm from CT too, so I'm always on the lookout for new places to take my jeep.
