here ya go!

I haven't been here yet

Badlands Off Road Park - Indiana, 4x4, ATV, motorcycle riding, sand dunes, mud pits, rock crawling

but I heard (and it looks) badass. there is a Chicago-area Jeep Club that schedules events there often, and also does other open events. I'm not affiliated as I have zero time, but their website is legit

Great Lakes Jeep Thing

also there is this place, prob a 3 hour drive for you (central IL) but I heard it's good

Home page for Luster's Longhorn Mud Ranch

soon as I'm done with my build I plan on getting out and seeing for myself.

^ I wouldn't go greatest place ever. It is fun for a day or 2 but after the second day it gets boring. I can run a group of 6 jeeps thru that entire park in 3/4 of a day. I have been trying to get to redbird which is a hour or so south of badlands and they are suppose to have some outstanding trails. ( I wanted to travel to redbird on a friday night wheel saturday at redbird then sat night head to badlands for a wheeling day there then head home sunday night) that would be a prettty sweet trip.

I go down to the Braidwood/Coal City area just south of I80 off of I55. Lots of exploring. Unique off the grid type stuff. Some Prairie, some hills, some mud, some forest. I was just there last week. Have yet to wash my Jeep from it. =)

I can post some pics if you'd like to get a taste of where we go.

Yea that would be cool if you could post some pics. When I was in high school I used to go to Raccoon Lake and we would go ride quads somewhere around there. I'm not sure if it was the badlands though.

Nah that was plenty. Willing to go anytime anyone comes down. I moved here from IL so I understand how hard it is to find anywhere to go there.

You have rock gardens and the like? If so I might make a trip down. I miss wheeling. We are suppose to run turkey weekend at badlands but I dunno if my jeep will be fixed by then.

Wheelin in the Chicagoland area.

Before you make a 3 hour trip to the BADLANDS, you might want to check out "the CLIFF'S INSANE TERRAIN" In Marseilles, IL. I have been to both. The BADLANDS is fun, but there is a lot of sand and the place is so frickin huge that you need a week there. There is camping available. But like you would imagine, the trails are pretty deep holes that the bigger trucks run. Definitely one on the "To Do" list. Now then, since you have a Jeep, you will definitely appreciate 'the CLIFF'S INSANE TERRAIN" much more, and it is a lot closer. The place is, well, just that. INSANE! 300 acres of twists and turns of nothing but extreme mud! There is hillclimbing, rocks, twists, tweaks, pits, streams, you name it. Built by a bunch of guys with crawler machines, so some of the trails are badass. You will definitely need a winch! Let me know when you want to go!

Wassapening?

Hey guy. Just thought that I would let you know that I am in Portage too! I know of as a few little holes to play in, but they get pretty boring pretty fast. Let me know and I can show you around sometime. I am also going to be hitting "the Cliff's" as soon as I get my front axle rebuilt. Parts are on their way here, but have to come from a different warehouse, so it may be a few days. It will have to bee a weekend trip since I am a student. Just let me know if you wanna go and we will have to set something up. The more the merrier!

StinkyMud -- Sorry for pulling up an old thread but would really appreciate a bit more detail on good places to off road in the Coal City / Braidwood area. Can you give some directions to where the trails are / intersections / or map?

Thanks so much,

GR
