Wheelin' in housing developments

I was talking to someone today at the gas station and he mentioned that he and some friends were going to a housing development that was under construction and go muddin'. They said it doesn't cause problems as long as you're not doing it while the people are working. I don't really go for that. I don't want to wheel on someone else's land unless I know it's OK.

On that note, what chance would I have asking a developer for permission to wheel on land that is just beginning to be cleared or land that is just sitting there undeveloped?

I would have to say that, unless it's state land, you're going to have a hard time convincing anyone that 1) you won't absolutely destroy the terrain, and 2) that you won't present any liability if anyone gets injured while you're out playing.

Think about it like this: Would you approve a group of teenagers to skateboard on your front sidewalk? I highly doubt it. And no one is looking at a Jeep like anything other than a 4WD skateboard that can go 100 mph.

Well, 100mph might be a pipe dream.... But no you should not go wheeling there unless you have permission from the people who own the property.... It is private property and trespassing is a big NO-NO..... Regardless of it's current condition, someone is going to have to pay someone else to smooth out all the ruts made by trespassers... And last I heard it was still ILLEGAL...

InfernoGirl, I apologize in advance if I come across and being rude, but I wasn't asking about wheeling without permission. I know that is frowned upon on this forum and even if it wasn't, I really don't want to meet any of my city/county's finest. I was asking what chance I would have asking the property owner for permission. Once again, I'm not trying to be rude, I just want to clarify my question.

The answer is no until you ask. In a case like this it's likely no after you ask.

I "wheeled" with permission from my developer on the unfinished section of my neighborhood and never even left the road (just unpaved/graded) and my thread got yanked.

The only time I have "wheeled" in a housing development was when I was a kid with a bmx bike. The dozer operater was pretty cool and even made a couple of small dirt ramps for us.
