Just curious, why not do a standard Jeep 4.0l or stroker If you are going to do a 4.2 chevy? Seems like a lot of work, and money for not a huge gain. 5.3l would probably be more cost effective.

Not a huge gain? psh those things make 275 HP... the 2.5 makes like 120. Youd be gaining 150HP.

Now, I did indeed research this swap before i started on my 4.8 swap. I only found ONE person that did this swap.

There is a LOT more info on a chevy small block v8 swap and youre going to make more HP from the v8 than the I6. Plus, I don't think there is a big aftermarket for the I6 into a jeep, youd probably have to fabricate your motor mounts and stuff. If you go with the V8, there is a number of choices that you can go to.

The Chevy 4.2 6 banger is a great motor. We just sold our '03 TB, it had 250k on the clock & ran just as good at 250k as it did the day we drove it off the lot.

Owning both the AMC 4.0 & the GM 4.2, I'll say the 4.2 is light years ahead of the dated 4.0. They have power out the ying yang in stock form, let alone with basic upgrades (a good performance flash will make them come alive).

I'm sure someone out there has done the swap, but it's nowhere near as popular as a V8 swap, so info is going to be hard to find online. IF you have the means & ability to do the swap, I say go for it!

I was thinking the 4.2 since I have a mint one sitting in my driveway with only 50K miles on it. I would love the V8 but the 4.2 is what I got. Must be some one out there who has done this.

This is true, I was referring to a 4.0l or a stroker. Anything is an improvement over the 2.5l. For the amount of work, it wouldn't be cost effective.

Now that I know he has the motor, it makes a little more sense since your not going out and purchasing a 4.2l. Keep us updated on the swap. I am sure advance adapters can make anything you need.
