compressed in a Turbo gets hot, really? I know ....LOL. very good advice and people don't really realize how much. Here's why I didn't intercool...
Its a Trail jeep....
I rarely see any speed...10 MPH tops....
The intercooler would be Covered in mud after the first mud hole making it worthless...
Now I have a mud covered intercooler blocking airflow to my radiator....
hoses everywhere ...more intake hoses = possibly chance of leaks
It is run hard over rough bouncy terrain which increases the possibilities of all that stuff coming loose....
Its running 6psi...
I have a timing computer...
Water/ methanol injection will be going in but not really required ...
See where I'm going with this...simplicity is key, reliability is paramount. ...
Its not like I'm trolling the Walmart with this thing or driving it to church on Sundays.

If it spent more time on the street and was shiny and I used it daily then yes...intercooler definitely.

Chuck is right though ...this was a big decision to not intercool, I had to weigh my options and consulted a lot of people about it...keeping in mind the conditions it would run under.

To answer your question stykthyn.. for me it was a no brainer but only because of existing drivetrain. The axels are better than stock but not enough for any 8 I would wanna put in( ls2) ...a v8 would require the whole drivetrain to go in place of what's there. Axels $, driveshafts$, tcase $,trans $, motor mounts $, all the electrical splicing $, radiator $, just add those up and then add more for all the associated stuff to adapt and make it all work...then add your time. I wheel with guys that have 4.3s, ls1,bt4, ect...its a long process and always costs more than expected ...maybe my next project.

Right on man. It's very possible to run a non intercooled setup, older legacys ran a 2.2 l motor that wasn't intercooled, 8 solid psi across the board. Was arguably subarus best motor.

Glad your crossing your Ts and dotting your I's. Looks like a kickass setup

Lol I bet.

You know the motor is holding both of the middle fingers right at YOU the whole time.

Update on project. Everything good. Did a bunch of tuning by myself and am 95% on the money ...idle a bit high and a intermittent studder every once in a blue moon transitioning into boost. Its a rare thing but I wanna eliminate it. It's been wheelin a few times runs awesome in the woods, spools instantly in low range overall a big improvement ..its been hot as hell in pa so street performance is OK, being non intercooled hot weather sapps a lot of power. This morning it was 70 degrees out and man what a difference, felt so much stronger. Thinking I may do a water to air setup or just water injection as previously planned.

I forgot if you already mentioned a methanol injection setup yet?

E85 would be a cool setup with that turbo to but it sounds like you almost have your petrol setup going.

e85 not readily available around here in Philadelphia. Water methanol setup is awesome! Like running 116 octane all the time. So happy with it.!

I just noticed you have round headlamps with the square turn signals. I love it!

I know this is an older thread but I am very curious to hear how the hyper pistons have held up under boost, I am building my 2.5 but it's in a 1999 Dodge Dakota, exact same engine, also did you use the stock headbolts or go with studs, and if so where did you get the head studs, these are great little engines, decent power, durable and fairly good on gas compared to a 6 or 8 in the same rig. A video would be nice to see after 2 years of abuse.
