5.7 Hemi Swap for TJ

Hey all,

New to the Forum. I was wondering if anyone could help me compile a list of stuff I need for my Hemi swap!

I think I have a handle on some of it but can you add to this list?

The motor itself, Wiring harness, Headers thru exhaust, motor mounts from teraflex, transmission (id prefer manual!), ???

Please help!

It is a pricey swap along with a lot of parts. It is a buy the big stuff and put it all together then start making the little pieces work. IF you really are going to do this push that front axle forward about 6in also when you are making room for everything!

Thanks for the additional!

Anyone have any solid figures as to what Im looking at price wise?

I'd like a 2005 Hemi as the 2006 came with the 'fsd' where it shuts down 4 cylinders when theyre not needed. i dont want that.

Also, anyone have any more definitive suggestions for locations to find a motor besides scrap yards?

Hemi Swap!

Does anyone know if the Dana 35 axle supports the power of the Hemi?

I'm looking to throw in an ARB locker and 4:56 gears, and Chromoly axle shafts.

Will it do the job?

I have the 44 rear and 35 front.

The TJ doesn't have a D35 front axle. The only front D35 is a center section IFS housing used in the front of ford rangers.

Your front axle is D30 from the factory. Only option for the front of a TJ.

ONLY exception is the rubicon model with a D44 front. But it still uses the D30 outers. etc'.

distortedtj: Thanks for the info. I thought it sounded weird. So if I throw on a 1 inch body lift to clear any steering issues or axle rub do you think the 30 will support the power of the hemi?
btw, Ive read some of your other posts and you seem like a pretty knowledgeable person! Thanks

jameslee97206: LOL dont we all have to get permission from the one who's really in charge? Ultimately if I were to have 2 toys it'd be this TJ with a 5.7 Hemi in it, and a 69 Dodge Charger. I'll keep you posted on my money pits.

New Thought

Here's a new thought:

What about a 5.2 318 V8 from a Grand Cherokee being swapped into a Wrangler?

Space Issues?

Mating to a manual transmission?

Difficulty?

Penny for anyone's input! Thanks guys!

Novak Jeep Conversions - Home
AdvanceAdapters.com | Engine & Transmission Conversion Adapters - Advance Adapters
Are 2 great places to start for V8 conversions. I am putting a 305 sbc in a 98 tj, with TH350 auto.
Cost around $3500.
Radiator, shifter,headers (Ebay)
Adapted Transmission (Novak)
Mounts (Novak)
Drive shaft work (local)
Motor, out of neighbors truck $300.00

I'm in the final stages of swapping a 6.1 into my '04 Rubicon. I can give you the complete list of parts I've needed so far. The list seems to keep on growing....

I went with a manual transmission. It created some more headaches and some complications...If I had gone auto it would have been a simple swap from a grand cherokee v8....You can call Burnsville Offroad, but they will not share any info with you, even if you tell them you will buy the necessary parts from them. Slightly aggrivating. I'll start putting together a list of all the parts I've bought....it's 2 years worth so it may take some time to assemble. From what I understand and have learned, the 5.7 fits much better into a TJ than the 6.1....I also had a lot of help from HotWire Auto, they are the only place that will get your Hemi to run correctly and pass emissions. Novak does sell the adapter kit, but they told me that the gauge clusters, AC, accessories, etc. will not work and that it will not pass emissions.

Not entirely true the tj saraha with the the tow package had the d44 in back. But otherwise good info

You should prolly upgrade the axel because with that much torque and power u might crack it when wheeling

I agree with upgrading the axle. However if you have the D44 to start with, why not use it until it breaks, then upgrade to something beefier? The stock Jeep D44's are prone to bending, so when I finally get my project running again I most likely will be changing the axles. Any suggestions?

Tim is talking about front axles. D30 is the only front axle you will find in a TJ, with the exception of the Rubicon, which has the 44 up front.
