92 Wrangler from the beginin!!

Here are pics of my project in the beginning - I plan to do paint, weld in a new drivers floor pan, and get all the running gear working again - This will take awhile so I will be updating this thread as I go!!

Last couple days have been made up of getting a game plan, cleaning the shop and today we finally got a little work done. Using a wire wheel we cleaned the frame of loose dirt an surface rust then started coating everything with Mar-hyde - one step. Ive used this stuff in the past and really works great! converts the rust and leaves a strong shield against new rust - you can even paint over it if you want to. Here a some pics. - Bill

You were right about the "mobile pile of parts" thing. Looks like a lot of work ahead. I love watching someone bring an old Wrangler back to life so keep us posted. I'm looking forward to your updates.

I put a new floor in on my drivers side and I have some shots detailing the process. I will describe all the photos then insert them cause I cant figur how to subtext!! 1) First is a shot of my old rusted out drivers side pan. 2) Second shot is the floor area with the old pan removed b sure to grind all the edges clean - the cleaner the better your welds will come out. 3) this is a shot of the trimmed pan with the edges ground. 4) This shows after I fit the pan where I want it to go I go under the jeep and with a sharpie mark all the braces so I can drill holes to make welds where the original spot welds were. 5) Last shot shows the pan welded in I usually do the spot weld areas first then the perimeter welds I do about an inch or 2 at a time around then fill in the gaps. From start 2 finish this took about 6 hours working time. Just need 2 grind the welds seam seal and paint - the underneath will b rhino lined later. Shes ready 2 rock again - Well at least the floor is thankfully the rest of the metal is good 2 go!!
See ya - Bill

Alright time 4 another up date - Ive got most of the Frame coated with one-step and its lookin nice (1st pic is of frame). I got the brake lines repaired and bled, Got the clutch hose hooked up n bled, now Im trying 2 get all the wires re connected and figure out anything that needs attention before I start the old girl. 2nd pic is of my hell mess in the cockpit trying to get the dash wired back up!! 3rd n 4th picks are of my pin stripe removal - this tub came from a Laredo and has a ton of pinstripes so my buddy Jim told me of a tool that removes pinstripes!! it is like a big eraser that goes on an air grinder and it kicks but!! if you got alot of stripes 2 remove in vest in a couple of these. Lastly I have a question 4 u Jeep experts out there I have a box (last pics) on my firewall just above and 2 the right of my accelerator pedal can anyone tell me what this is and do I need it? The tub is from an 89 and all the parts Im installing are from a 92 and I see nothing that goes 2 this box!!??!
See ya - Bill

Last week I got the Jeep running 2 satisfy my curiosity cuz the P.O. said it ran great b4 the tub swap and yes the jeep seems to run great - Needs complete exhaust, heater core, all column controls and the 4 wheel wont shift in BUT it runs like a top!!! so at least I know what I am working with now. This week its on to body work - here are some pics of the work in progress welding up some body holes - fixing low and high spots and a LOT of sanding going on!! Till the next update - See Ya - Bill

This week has been busy with doing things that will b easier 2 do while the jeep is in pieces. I visited a Jeep salvage yard close 2 my house and bought a heater box from a 95 Wrangler, a good exhaust manifold w/shock dampers cuz the old 1 was cracked (shocker ----- Not!!) plus a few little items - battery hold down, spark plug wire loom. I installed the new heater and got it working - installed exhaust manifold and continued on with more body work. Now at least all the stuff that needs 2 be done while the fenders are off are done so I can get all the jams painted and mount all the panels 4 final paint.
Just a short update will post pics next update!!
See Ya - Bill

So - I've been working hard on getting all the panels back on the Jeep. I bought a stainless steel hardware kit from Totally Stainless and been putting everything back together with stainless hardware. It makes 4 a really clean install - the only thing that that is different with stainless is you have 2 use anti-seize compound on everything. Here are some progress pics.
