this was the first day when i went to look at it, but the price was to high so i decided to sit back and wait, and eventually the guy lowered the price, and i went back and got it... this is a picture of how it looked that day

33s, with a 31" spare, shackle/suspension lift, k/c cold air intake, 2.5L 4cyl, new paint, half top, half doors, no back seat, no carpet, rough wired KCs on the front, and plenty of other bad stuff. but its my first jeep, and all i saw was big tires... but thats where the fun begins

once i got it home i realized how bad it really was... the 4cyl still haunts me to this day, the engine had some sort of problem where it would randomly shut off, the wiring harness was all messed up, the front axle didnt connect in 4wd, ect. but ill get to all that... the first night i got it home i decided to put the full top on because the owner had that apparently. when i went to put it on i realized there was no back window. greattt. then i realized it didnt fit properly... thats when my friend suggested the soft top frame. i guess the previous owner forgot to give me that as well. so i went on craigslist to see what i could find...

around this time it started randomly shutting off on me, so i decided to change the oil, oil filter, fuel filter, and coolant. took it for a test drive, and it continued to die. so i checked all the wires, spark plugs, distributor, ect. nothing. eventually i took it to the mechanic out of frustration, and he said they found a piece of wood jammed into somthing that was causing it to shut off when it over heated or somthing. guessing previous owner spite...? but i overlooked it and kept going

at this point i found a soft top frame on craigslist, and decided to go buy it. i got it, no problem, put it on the jeep no problem, and tried to attach the top to it... apparently there is multiple soft top hardware for yjs... we learn something new every day. lovely. so i dumped it in the garage. haven't touched it since. also around this time i drove home from work with no top on, and it rained. decided i needed a top, and instead of screwing with the soft top again i decided i would try to get a hardtop.

i talked to a fellow jeeper on this forum, b67cuda i believe was his name, he lived in PA, and he had a white hardtop that he said he didnt use and he would sell it to me for $250 if i drove up there to get it. so i got my father to borrow his friends truck, borrow his other friends trailer, and we set out at 4am, got there at about 3 or 4, picked up the top, turned around and drove back. we got back at around 10, reattached the seal on the bottom, cleaned it, got new bolts, and put the top onn finnishing at about midnight. here is a picture of how it looked right then, and then the next day...

once i got the top on i went to my friends house to show him, and he has a pond in his front yard. he guarenteed me the jeep could go through, so i decided to try it out. i put it in 4hi and attempted to drive straight through. 4hi isnt the way to go. i got stuck very fast, and didnt know about 4lo. also at this point i had no recovery points, so i was in trouble. luckly he had a suburban, and a tow strap, so we tied it to the front axle, and pulled it out.

unfortunatelly i have no pictures of the recovery because it was dark out, but i have a pic the next day at the car wash...

shortly here after my wiring harness failed.

not a great day. the mechanics couldn't fix it for about 2 weeks, because neither me nor them knew it was the wiring harness...

once i got it back i decided i needed a back seat... so i forum hunted until i found NHrubicon who happened to have a spare yj back seat that he sold to me for $25, but he did not have the brackets. out of luck, another member saw this post, and sent me a spare pare of brackets he had for $10 shipping costs. so i got my back seat for $35 once complete...

at this point i had been running half doors with the full surrounds that had the angled corners rather than circular, so they didnt fit right, and with the winter it was getting cold so i began looking around for full doors until i found a set of cj7 doors, in very rough condition, but they were for $120 so i bought them.

Sounds like you've had about as much fun as I have, lol. Nice looking Jeep though I'm going to be doing the bed liner in mine soon as well.

Yup my 2.5 liter was haunting me too. Had a bottom end knock, I replaced nearly every gasket and seal there could be on the damn thing. Then one day I had 400$ and saw a sbc and trans sitting in my neighbors garage offered 400 bucks for the combo and now that 2.5 is long gone in the junkyard. Its pcm and wiring harness is about to be sold too

heres the short not of the doors... i got them with lots of rust, so i sanded them, bondo'd them, steel brushed them with the drill bit, painted over the rust with rust paint, primed them, then painted them

they came out good i think...

after doors i decided it was time for armor. i knew i wanted rock sliders, with the tube steps, some sort of front bumper, some sort or rear bumper, and a spare tire carrier on the rear bumper so i can get a full sized spare. when i started looking around i couldn't find anything that was exactelly what i wanted so i decided to make it. i have a buddy who has a shop, and he has welders, metal saws, drills, plasma cutter, and all kinds of other tools, and i had a friend lend me his pipe bender. so i went down to the local metal shop and bought 21 feel on 1" tubing, 21 feet of 1.25" tubing, and a 4'x8' sheet of 11 gauge steel, the total coming to about $300. then we started working...

alright so at this point, this is recently, i got upset at somthing, so i decided to buy some offroad lights. after buying them i realized i didnt know where to put them. so i got together with my buddy, and we built a hood mounted light bar. then i realized it would be a waste to just put the light bar on, so i bought some entry guards, and tail light guards to also install. pics...

me and my other buddy wired the hood-mounted-light bar, and it only took us about an hour or so which surprised me because nothing goes right with jeeps.

then i went offroading again in Raleigh.

i was going up a particularly easy hill, and having a huge amount off difficulty when one of the guys realized my front tires weren't spinning even in 4lo. so after getting stuck multiple times we finally got it out of there, and i got it back home to trouble shoot. turns out the vacume hoses in the shift fork were bad, and i needed to take the housing off, and put a spring on it to push the shift fork over slightly locking it permanently. after that i took it out in the woods, and did a burn out in some mud. all better.

i forgot to mention at this point i had no recovery points so getting me unstuck involved us tying a tow strap around the front axle and pulling it. we broke my tie rod. 300$ later my tie rod is fixed, and the tires are re-aligned. now onto recovery...

i bought 2 tow hooks, currently i have one on the jeep. i cant get the bolt off the other side so that brings me to now. hopefully i will get together with my buddy with the shop at some point today and we will get the other hook on and get some more work done on the armor and such. this brings me to now. future plans include making my own corner armor, and some flat fender flares like the ones bushwacker has, jsut made of metal rather than plastic. and now we can see how that goes... updates on how it goes later later on
