They are fairly cheap. I wanna say I paid 20 or 30 for mine at a surplus store. You've just gotta look around.

What size ammo box is that? I really like that setup and im thinking about doing the same thing soon to my YJ. Right now I have my back seat out and a huge toolbox bolted down but I now need my rear seat..

It's a 40mm grenade ammo can.

I'm planning on mounting two in the same exact spot as those ^^^

However, I designed my mount to meet some requirements of mine... I want it to be secure from theft, i.e. securely bolted down, but still easily removable. This is because I would use them as tool boxes, so it's definitely nice to be able to take them out to where I'm working. So I designed it so that it is held down securely, but all I have to do to remove it is remove 1 padlock. Its a pretty complicated design, but when I get around to doing it, I'll post pics... but first I have to get around to doing the Herculiner, and then get around to doing the mounts haha

What is the best way to secure ammo cans to the floor behind the rear seat to prevent theft?

If you guys are looking for cheap ammo cans, go to any local gunshow. I go to maybe a dozen shows a year and people are selling ammo cans at every single show. I've got a ton of .50 cal cans that are in pristine shape and I only paid $8 for each of them. The 40 mm grenade cans usually go for around $12 at these shows.

Quadratec, I'm impressed...your prices are very good for new cans. I've seen higher prices for used ammo cans at my local army/navy store.

I've got ammo cans all over my Jeep....
I have a couple mounted opposite each other out back. The driver's side can has recovery equipment in it and the right one has repair parts, hoses, belts, etc...
This is before paint...

and after...

I was told this was a .50 cal can, but after seeing one I think it's a 20mm can. Either way, it's my center console. Since this was taken I have moved my CB and Ham radio's into the can and built a custom power distribution block also.

I also have a small can I keep in the back with tire repair stuff in it.

I've thought about putting one under the hood, but I'm still undecided on that.

Hows the height of the 20mm can for the center console with the seats installed? Is it a comfortable height for an armrest?
More pics with the seats installed please!

It is the perfect height to use as an armrest between shifts. It is about an inch taller than the shifter so my hand rests perfectly on top of my shifter knob.

Here ya go man...

Medix, I have my cans mounted on my tire carrier so they don't affect the top at all when it's down.

Awesome...exactly what I was looking for. I think I'll have a custom padded cover made for the lid so its more comfortable and not as hot/cold.

I bought two used ammo cans from the army surplus store, got them home and found theyre both harder than hell to open. Wasnt smart enough to actually try opening them in the store!! Put marine grease on the sides but you still have to pry the tops hard to get them to open...not happy....and theres no damage at all. Are the real deal metal ones all hard to open to the point of having to pry them or did i just pick two bad ones??

Some are harder to open than others. In my experience, the more they are used the easier they are to work with. You may want to try some rubber"grease" or petroleum jelly on the gasket as this may help.
