another diy footpeg

while up at the farm in vermont i had access to a welder and decided to make some foot pegs. Unfortunatley i wasnt able to take pictures of the fabrication but thought id let everyone see how they came out.

tools and materials:
- steel tube (think its about 1". just what was lying around, not sure)
- 2 5/8 bolt about 3" long and nuts (again what was lying around)
- 2 large washers
- band saw (or hack saw)
- grinder
- drill
- welder
- spray paint

To start i cut 2 pieces of steel tube out about 7" long each.

Next i drilled a hole slighty bigger than the bolt in each piece. I drilled about a quarter inch off the edge all the way through the pipe.

I then put the bolt in the hole with just a tiny bit sticking out the other side (maybe an 1/8 of an inch) and welded the bolt to the pipe on both sides.

Next i put the bolt throught the hinch and checked the fit against the body and grinded the edge of the pipe till it was a perfect fit.

On the other side i welded a large washer to the end of the pipe just to keep my foot from sliding off the edge.

Finally i rattle canned the whole peg in primer and then black paint to prevent rust.

Bolt on and enjoy!

Nice. I already had plans to make some tomorrow for my Jeep. I am kinda going off the beaten path though as i am going to weld some chain links together and instead of them coming right out of the hinge, i am going to make them bolt up to the hinge and extend out and down a few inches to get a little more leg room as i am 6' 1" tall.

Gosh, I hate to be the one to throw water on the fire and by no means am I trying to sound like a harpie and I know that these may be comfortable while riding but ...

For safety's sake, you should ALWAYS keep your arms/legs/head and whatever other appendages INSIDE the vehicle.
