So this will be a thread explaining the process of how I bought my Jeep and how I will be restoring it over the next couple of months. Started off a stock 2.5 4x4 automatic TJ that was someones baby at one time but someone after has abused it for years. I named her Caitlyn after a ex girlfriend whom I invested all mine time in after a little while we called it quits. So the name is great for this jeep, hopefully it will last longer than the relationship did lol
This isn't my first time around the block with jeeps. I traded my first truck pictured Dodge Dakota for the YJ pictured and then sold the YJ for the grand cherokee. Then, sold the grand cherokee for the Wrangler I now have.
Well I got a local quote for repairs to the side tub and will be getting it pulled and primed for paint this week. I will probably get it back sometime next week. After I get it back I will be priming the replacement hood and fender also the doors and body to get ready for paint. Any suggestions on color?
So the projected pick up date for the Jeep, at the collision shop, is Wednesday. I'm still pricing the fenders and hood. I would love to get OEM used parts but aftermarket parts are easier to find and less expensive.
Yeah I got a lightly damaged red hood from a 2001 TJ and my dad found a fender for around $90 so all in all great deals. The guy I got the hood from actually has a complete TJ tub, roll bar, dash, exhaust, and many random things in it all rust free and got it for $100. So the people here I would say are pretty desperate for money and as a college student i'm just lucky to have money left over from financial aid.
Well the projected date of completion on my jeep was today and they're still not done So i'm just waiting for them to finish. Until then tomorrow I will post some pictures of the hood I got and a little progress on that
Well here's a picture of the new hood. Just a little damaged but its an moderately easy fix. Got some bad news from the shop today. They had to cut the outer fender in order to fix the tub. So now I'm stuck with a car without a fender for a little while because school is about to start up again and I have limited time to work on her.
UPDATE! I got my Jeep back from the shop today and boy have I missed her. Here are some pics of the fixed area. They had to cut off the outer fender because it was so mangled. Looks kinda cool with a cut fender
Yeah it's coming along. I should have the fender on and paint the inside and edges of it sometime this week. From there Ill work on the hood and should be done with all of the assembly by mid next week. Then I'll decide what color to paint it.
Today I found a great deal on craigslist for brand new Mastercraft 30/9.50/15 tires and nice Canyon rims, so I had to pick them up. My other tires literally had no tread left and the rims needed some serious love. Until then I will run the canyons and I'm loving the tires. Now I have a set until I upgrade with a lift and some 33's. In the pictures the rims are dirty because my hands were greasy and I put them on in the rain
