Ok, so I know a lot of people aren't big fans of putting a lot into the sound system on their jeeps. But I love my music, I like it loud, and it's my jeep. I thought you guys might like the custom build I did to get some extra sound out of my system. I've seen several set-ups like those speaker pods you can buy from most jeep accessory dealers but they all look like they stand out too much or would get in the way. I like my stuff to look a little better than that so I went with fabrication my own. The roll bar area between the existing speakers seemed like the best place. So using some luan (thin plywood) and some cedar (wont rot) planks, I built a box that would fit snugly between the two speakers boxes and not take up any useful space. After getting the box built like I wanted, I coated it with a fiberglass resin to seal it, and then coated with bed liner to protect it and make it look nice.I wanted to most sound possible from the location so I went with 6x9's. Pioneer 4-ways from walmart. I spliced the new speakers in with the factory wiring already up there for the others, the sony head unit has more than enough power to push all four roll bar speakers using the rear channel. 4 screws hold it in place, one in each existing speaker box and one on each side that goes into the roll bar.
Let me know what you think, I'll post some daylight pics soon along with my sub-set up in the rear.
Other than way too much speaker in one location....that close to your head, and that the speakers are of completely different brand and size, the issue I see is that you are showing a 2ohm load/channel at the headunit designed for 4ohm per channel. I can't say if that is going to damage the headunit or speakers, but it is a consideration that popped in my head.
I think the design is good, however. I like the ingenuity shown here.
