DIY Evap Skid

I decided to build my own Evap skid. It's certainly different from all the ones I've seen & I think it's actually stronger than most. I tried to take a pic of it installed but due to the shiney paint it didn't show up at all.
Next time I go out & straddle a huge crack I'll snap a pic & post it.

I started with a piece of 3/16th inch steel plate, 10" x 26". I had to trim it a bit so it wouldn't interfere with the transfer case.

I drilled two 1/2" holes in the transfer case skid, just in front of the cross member. I then drilled two corresponding holes in the Evap Skid & bolted it to the TC skid. Two huge washers were intalled to clamp down on this cross member. This prevents the skid from moving forwards or backwards.

On the other end of the skid I fabricated two brackets that bolt to the framwork of the Jeep, using existing bolts.

Metal strap was welded to the edges of the skid for rigidness & side impact resistance.

Thanks folks. I guess if I keep following Julie around I'm going to find out if it's strong enough. It's deffinatley thicker than the stock TC skid.

It's fun for the most part, but sometimes it hurts, lol. Ask Barrie to show you what happened to his front left swaybar conector while following her.

I also dented my tail pipe & drug my arse pretty good, scuffing up my rear bumper while following her.

Perhaps that is a disclaimer in her signature, lol.

There is a lot of truth to her sig line, just take a look at my trans skid and gas tank skid. But it's so much fun.

I might be cheaper for you to just stay home & beat your jeep with a hammer?

Ya, we hope you make the trip too. Should be a blast. Jeff & Julie are real good about spotting & choosing good trails & good lines & avoiding damage. Jeff is real good about hiking back down the trail to make sure everyone makes it.

Good job on the skid plate.

I built my own also (at work). I could not see paying $100 for something that I could make for less than 1/2 of that.

Here are a couple of pics.

Sorry, no pics of it installed.

I was going to delete the cannister but read that the computer wont forgive you. Then I was going to relocate it, but I read various times that changing its elevation & distance jacks up things as well. Could be hogwash that's for sure.

Thanks for the complment though!!!
