Does snorkel affect mpg ?

I'm lookin at a used 08 Unlimited X with an AEV snorkel . Does the snorkel affect gas mileage at all ? I ask cuz I'd be using the jeep to commute to work via expressway 3-4x per week , 30 miles each way.

Not at all you should remain the same or slightly better due to the colder more dense air, unless it is to restrictive.

Yea, I thought performance would improve some, since it would be cooler air being drawn in.

Does that expressway find itself under water a lot?

Not unless you just wanna enhance your mall crawler some more.

All of that freaking money you are wasting on a snorkle could ahve bought you more many gallons of gas. Before a snorkle can actually be used for its intended purpose there has to be a lot don't so you don't jack your jeep.

I wouldn't blow that kinda coin on it. If I chose to have one, I'd make it myself.

Mine cost 150 including the donaldson prefilter a 4" aluminum 90 to go through the firewall and 1/8" aluminum to build the filter box. Given its no river raider (my personal fav but expensive as hell) or aev but it works better in my opinion.

Also a snorkle has more use then just water. Here in AS its very dusty with a snorkle you can draw the air in that is higher and filled with less dust. A good way to preserve your engine.

Yea if u look into it a snorkel can and does provide more benefits than deep water, dust protection, cooler air than by the pavement, true visual of ur intake for ur motor. If the snorkel is designed correctly it should not hamper performance at all if anything should give a tiny bit of gas mileage. Mall crawler status I think not it is a lot more functional than a warm air intake..... Oh wait u guys refer to them as CAI <- that is mall crawler equipment.

Most people don't realize that under hood temps stay relatively close to 200 degrees robbing hp, by taking in nearly 100 degree cooler ambient air (even on a hot summer day) you will gain hp. I recommend the prefilter over a regular snorkel if there good enough for big money heavy equipment (excavators earth movers........) there good enough for the jeep.
