Do you have limited slip diff on the rear? If so i would get a selectable up front.I went with Eaton e locker (selectable front) and i also have LSD on the rear, works great with that combo.
Also if i didnt have the lsd on the rear i would get a Detroit for it..no need to get selectable back there. But if you have your mind set on the rear then they have Elockers that when turned off acts as a LSD.
I had front and rear arb's. worked great for me. No issues. Have no experience with the e-locker. No matter which you decided to go with make sure the person doing in the install has done many of them and knows what they are doing.
It doesn't matter what type of lift you have. Getting both your axles locked will get you much further than a lift will.
I also suggest a Detroit or lunch box locker for the rear, and a selectable up front. I will also say that getting anything but a lunch box locker will require you to re-setup your gears so if you want to do a regear now is the time. If you don't want the added expense of a regear then get a lunch box locker that you can install yourself without even removing your carrier. It is just like replacing the spider gears.
Ok all, I've done a big change.. I'm starting over. Just traded my 07 unlimited X for a 2011 Sahara. Sometime in a few weeks I'm getting the longarm lift and tires again. Since the Sahara comes with lockers, I may still want to upgrade the lockers, but it won't be anytime soon..
You should read a little more. Only... ONLY Rubicons come with lockers stock. LSD's in the rear only are an option but. Maybe you mean the previous owner put in lockers but with it being a '11, I doubt he bought it put in lockers then sold it in under a year. Give us alittle more info. And a LSD is not a locker IMHO
I bought this vehicle and they say it has Danna 44 rear and Danna 35 front.. Am I being screwed? This thing is really loaded with everything. How can you tell by physically looking if lockers are installed?
Unless Jeep switched the wranglers to IFS's then you definitely don't have a d35 front. d35 front axles only came as IFS(you'll find them under explorers mostly). All but the Rubi's come with d30's in the front. Rubi's got the d44. There is NO option to get a "locker" in the front of a non-Rubicon. If the guy told you D35 and front and rear lockers then he doesn't know what he's talking about. Super easy way to see if you have the lockers that Jeep puts in Wranglers is to look for switches on the center dash. Rubi lockers are selectable and have switches on the dash. Oh and FWY JK Rubi's use E-Lockers. The TJ Rubi's use ARB air lockers. I bet you only have an LSD in the rear. All Unlimited's have a D44 in the rear. All 2dr's other than Rubi's only have the D44 as an option.
Raise hell and try to get them to throw a Rubicon at you for a swap. Oh and I bolded the answer for looking for lockers.
First off, Im pretty sure your X had a Dana 44 rear and Dana 30 front...just like the 2011 you just bought. I dont believe there is a way to tell on the diff if you are locked. But like TJRod said, only rubis come factory with lockers...and unless you bought a used 2011 (seems kind of unlikely) there is no way lockers are in it.
He's feedin you crap unless they did some sort of aftermarket work at the dealership...you can even go to the Jeep website and look at specs. The ONLY factory jeep with lockers is the Rubicon model. All lockers, stock and aftermarket, (except for lunchbox and detroit lockers), will have switches of some sort in the cab to activate the lockers...
Thanks for the info, but I couldnt see the pics you uploaded. I'll have to talk with them about the lockers tomorrow. I believe they tried to sell and lie to me!
The Rubicon is the top model. You can't get all the bells and whistles without getting the Rubicon. Unless you got the 70th anniversary Sahara which I don't know what is different about it.
Oh and if they really try to convince you still that you have lockers. Ask them for the build sheet and ask them to point out the locker switch. I don't know why you can't see those pictures. You on a phone? I'll try to find a pick of what you should see coming out of your axle if you have a locker.
There are two differences in the drive train. One is the D44 in the front. The other is the 241 transfercase that has a 4:1 low range and external slip yoke comparied to the 231's 2.73:1 and internal slip yoke that everyone is quick to upgrade(or should be, considering that is a contributor to vibs in the drive like after a lift in SWB wranglers)
Yea, my last sentence was just in case you were talking about the 70th Sahara. I think it is just like the Islander and the whatever else "Special" editions they've made. Nothing special about it other than logos and decorations.

Wow, I left msg's and the dealer hasn't responded.. Looks like I'm gonna have to drive down there and raise hell! Otherwise, if they don't help me here, I'm gonna need a dame good lawyer!
A new Sahara, unless modified prior to sale, absolutely didnot come with lockers. No debate.
"Dana" is the manufacturer of the axle, which has nothing to do with whether you have lockers. All new Wranglers--including the one you traded in--come with Dana axles. However, you can have a Dana axle with Detroit lockers. Or ARB lockers. Or Ox lockers. Etc.
The Rubicon, not the Sahara, is the "top of the line" Wrangler. It comes with e-lockers and e-sway bar disconnects among other things. The Sahara does not come with these items and cannot be "ordered" with these items. No Sahara, including yours, has these items unless they are added aftermarket.
As far as I know, there are no "bells and whistles" that are available on the Sahara that are not available on the Rubicon. What are you referring to? Aside from the Rubicon's enhanced offroading features (such as the lockers), the differences are cosmetic. For example, your Sahara came with body color fenders rather than black fenders, you may have gotten a body color hard top rather than just a black hard top, etc.
