fabricating a front stinger?

first question - is the stinger supposed to prevent / discourage front rollovers?

second - i want to learn and practice welding so I'm thiniking about trying (maybe a few times) to fabricate a front stinger. what kind of tools do you guys use to bend and shape the metal? Also what type of metal are you using and where do you get it?

thanks

First: Yes. Think of dropping off a big shelf, nose first - if you start to tip forward, the stinger is supposed to stop your forward progress. Personally, I don't think that most stingers aren't really big enough to actually accomplish this. Or if they are big enough, they look really weird. I think most are just for the looks. Which is cool.

Not an expert on welding or metal - and there are a few around who will answer.

mine is for looks ,its made out of sch 40 pipe, that we use for battons on theatrical stage rigging.strong but not the best. we used a pipe bender (cheap harbor frieght ) to crush the pipe. there are some nice one already to weld on ,or find a shop that has a mandrel bender and use DOM tubing http://www.jeeptubes.com/
here you go
