Fender flare fab

It turns out that the smittybilt XRC armor will not pass with a PA state inspection so, I got some 1&3/4 " steel piping, and some 3/16th steel and diamond plating. I am going to bend the pipe, weld it to the frame and then cut shape and weld either the diamond plating or sheet onto it for the flares. (on a 2010 JK Sport) All to be covered in bed liner. I will post pictures of it when it is done, hopefully this weekend. Before I go and get all crazy with this, anyone have any last minute tips or suggestions?

Pank,

Sounds like a solid plan, just make sure you clean and prep all the surfaces for weldling. Nothing like forming metal and having the welds not some out good and have to start over. Again, the same thing with paint, clean all the metal with acetone or mineral spirits so the bed liner sticks.

I look forward to seeing the finished product. Let me know if you have any questions!

Using pipe or tube?

sucks about inspection, I have a place that will pass you though

3/16 seems a little thick for the steel plate, did you already buy it?
