Ford 8.8 swap

I'm looking for the cheapest way to put a ford 8.8 in my tj. The east coast gear supply goes over a grand by the time you put everything in their empty housing. How hard is it to weld your own brackets on? I just need a new rear end fast and cheap and do not wanna mess with the Dana 35 any more. Mayb a cheap rubi 44? Or someone selling a 8.8 at a decent price ready to go. Looking for 3.55-4.10 ratio

Not sure of your location, but there are several companies that make these swap kits. I've heard some are as cheap as $175, but this was the best I found. You can find the axle itself at most junkyards or in the for sale forums. Try the vendors on here as well as the sight from my second link. Many will give discounts if you are a member of certain boards. DO NOT post in the hard core section over on Pirate, they will tear you a new one! They will offer friendly advice in the newbie section though. Where are you located?

I'm in central Indiana and I'd b willing to build my own but I'm so worried about getting the brackets on right. I'm not great at welding

I bought mine from ECGS (east coast gear supply) and I do have to say it was well worth it. fully set-up with lockers and gears plus disk brakes. easy install just remove the old one and install the new. If you can swing the cash its more than worth it. I had considered doing it myself but it would have taken a ton of time to do and I don't have a lot of time on my hands with all my other projects and work getting in the way.

D44's are hard to come by these days, and are usually around the same price range for a good one. just something to think about...

I don't think this belongs in the Fab section. This is more of a question for the TJ section.

BTW, I just bought all the brackets to get a ford 9 in my TJ and it was just about $200 shipped. From ballistic fab. Get a digital angle finder a few good measuring tapes and look at Stu Offroads 8.8 swap page for exact measurments for all the mounts. Also a great thing to get with half of it lined up for you is a rear axle truss from TnT Customs The UCA mounts are prewelded to the truss, then just use an angle finder after you set your pinion angle to weld on the coil buckets and LCA mounts.
