Frame Swap

I'm starting my frame swap tomorrow on my 2000 tj with my dads help, wish me luck will be providing pictures along the way! Hopefully continuing this thread when I get enough money to mod. Wish me luck!

I started by finding a new frame in better shape than mine then grinding all visible rust down to near all metal. There was still some problems with the frame I bought since it was from a used 2006 and I found it in a nearby scrap yard for $600. It was mostly neat the skid plate mounts which is exactly where my other frame began to rot. SO with some help from my dad I cut out the thin pieces of metal and welded some new sturdier stronger steel from some coping I had laying around.
Tonight was the first official night that I began working towards putting the frame in. My plan is too unbolt everything from the body but leave it in tact and just lift it off over the drivetrain, motor, axles..ect you get the point. I did not think that with just me and my dad(who is a masters certified chrysler/dodge/jeep/anything with wheels) mechanic would be able to accomplish this whole task in just a few short hours but we did it successfully.

Tomorrow my friend is headed over with a heavy duty forklift with 30 ft boom being towed by his peter built. It's good to have connections. (;

I could not believe how completely terrible of a frame I had been driving on and off road with for almost a year! Motor is fully disconnected from the body waiting for my friend to show up with his fork lift

How do you NOT realize that your frame is rotten?

I bought a rust penetrant/protector paint suggested over por15 at my local auto store. It's not that I didn't know it was rotten it was well hidden by the skid plate but I could see most of it and I didn't realize the severity. My new frame went in in 2 days and I only ran into 1 major issue with the power steering box not fitting since my jeep is a 2000 and I got a 2006 frame. I went to a junkyard my friends own and got an 06 steering box to put in with new likes! Drove it to the gas station last night to fill it up for today! I have more pictures of as it goes in I will post later since I am on my phone now

In all this whole frame swap was planned to take an entire week...It took us no longer than 2 days and it was running and back on the road. My dad is a miracle worker and I have some great friends who helped me. It is safe to say I now know almost every nut and bolt inside and out of my jeep now! Keep on jeepin on
