Help with smittybilt XRC fenders

Installing fender flares on my JKU, what should I do about the inside of the fenders? Do I need to cut them down to avoid damage to the electronics or motor?? Or will my jeep be fine without them

many people run without them with no problems at all. It's not like your engine compartment is sealed anyways. I have seen where some have trimmed them down though and that would be the route I would go.
