Improved Homemade Instatrunk

I made an improvement to the security trunk I built by adding aluminum angle around the edges, a 2x2 ledge, and eye hooks to the top. Looks better and adds some strength which will help when I eventually mount a 33" spare on it.

Thanks! Next challenge will be how to best mount the 33" spare to it so I can avoid the expense of a swing out carrier/bumper.

Summit Racing might be a good place to find customizable wheel mounts.

It's in the for sale section now. I took it out and replaced it with an aluminum box I got at Harbor Freight because I'm removing the carpet to keep the doors off and windows out all summer without rain worries. I'm pretty sure my homemade trunk would not have been very waterproof.

It should fit as is in a TJ. Either way, even with the LJ you have to lose the back seat.

Here's a link to a pic - it's the smaller one on the right. Very lightweight due to pretty thin aluminum - but seems secure enough to me. It has a key lock, one lid strut, and rubber weather stripping around the lid. It's no Tuffy, but it's also only $189 instead of $600+

I'll have some pics up of mine installed in "What I did for my Jeep Today" on Saturday.
