Im new to the forum and I would like to share my build....
Well I let my god son drive my Jeep to school and he never made it that day...he walked away after flipping it three times with just a few stitches in his chin and lower lip....
I had this vehicle since 1993....and it some some fond memories....
Then off to paint in 2010, D & N Auto Las Vegas...Great Shop...they will be getting the rebuild back for paint..
Then a phone call in the mroning....I have been in a terrible accident....
Rebuild it....so i found this donor Jeep with only a good body and frame....everything else was shot....
Got it home and tore in to it with help from family and a few friends..
Then started from the ground up on getting it back together...
Just a few engine mods....

First set of lights are on the Jeep, these are Baja designs Onx 8" light bars, they produuce 4300 lumen each at 5000k and only 44 watts.
Sneak peak at the guages and color...
Nice it starts off at .1 miles when it gets back on the road...
Two Baja Designs 8" Onx Pro Light bars
Two 10 Degree Vision X Light Cannons
Two 10 degree Vision X Optimus Primes
Two 60 degree Vision X Optimus Primes
This is why your son crashed it in the first place. He couldn't see over the dash!
Really though, I'm glad he's ok and amazing job on everything so far. That takes a lot of commitment and guts to rebuild it. Most people would just walk away and look for another jeep.
So i decided to add a little rear light to the Jeep, just a touch more than back-up lights, so we flush mounted a set of Vision X Solstice 900 lumen 10 watt lights as switch operated rear lights...
It was a tough decision but I was able to salvage enough parts off the wrecked one to make it worth the time. Such as the currie high pinion 9 rear, the upgraded transfer case and front axle and a few other parts.
The plan was to just do a quick parts swap but as we dug in to the donor jeep we decided to just do a complete build.
That was funny! That's his little brother in the picture my son is off at College at West Point, but it was my god son who wrecked it... And my son was not happy because he was three when I got it and we had just finished restoring it for his graduation present....
This one will be his new graduation present when he graduates from West Point but he doesn't know that yet.

It has taken me about 2 years but I took some time off in April 2012 because we had twins and after 6 months or so I started back. It has been a complete rebuild almost 100% of everything from all sensors, pin checked and repaired all wires, every hose, bolt etc... Have been changed. So it will be a new Jeep when we are done. Stripped the frame and applied Por 15 then a coat of Chassis coat, under coated the tub, added A/C, it's been a learning experience.
Wow that's crazy. When I read through it all it almost seems like you did it all in a week or two just because it was all posted in such a short amount of time!
This is something I would love and hate to do. I'd love it because after doing it you can literally say you knew every nook and cranny of your jeep but at the same time it would be a nuisance to be working on a project for two years! I'm absolutely sure once you see the smile on your sons face after you hand over the keys you'll have no doubt it was worth every single second.
I wish I could have worked on it more...but project took back seat to the family... I planned on 6 months start to finish but sons college expense(did a year at UNLV before being accepted to West Point) the new additions to the family the twins....yes 18 years part and and a few other things cut my work time down.
I will say almost 100% is new..... And to make things better I finished getting the magnafliw cat and banks cat back exhaust installed today...all that is left is finish getting all the wires under the dash secure, do the plumbing for the A/C, install the front seats, wire up the CB and off to smog.

Are you planning on just redoing the current paint color on the tub or go a completely different color? If so, what color?
I really like OD green on any jeep. It just fits it because of where their roots lie...
This time I will be going with the tan that the roll bar was painted, the paint we used on the first jeep and this one is a DuPont Imron industrial paint. The same type if paint used on Caterpillars, tractors and industrial vehicles.
I almost went back to the green but I didn't have luck with the first one.
I was hoping to have a test run this week but I've been getting ready for a adventure & dual sport rally I host at Gold Point NV twice a year. So hopefully next week I will have some breaking pictures.
AWESOME BUILD!!! I am sorry to see that she got in the accident! Great work on the build...I wish I had access to the facilities you do! I like the LED mod you did in the dash.
Awesome report on all the work...your son must be very grateful...seems its going to be a freaking awesome practical off-roader..
greetings from Curacao
Thank you, I will shoot pics of the complete build and parts, this build was to be the best practical trail vehicle build. It has a lot more to the build than what I listed.
My biggest concern with the build was strength, durability and RELIABILITY. I doubt I will ever run larger than 33's but she will fit 35's.
The rear axle is a Currie high pinion 9 with a Detroit Tru trac gear driven Posi, front is the 30 but also heavily modified to include chromoly axles, Tru Trac, warn hubs, and 4:56 gears front and rear.
The question always asked is why not lockers, well had them before, they were great, arb had failure points, ected failure points, etc... Gear driven Posi no lines electrical or air, yes not as solid lock up and I may have to modulate the brake...but hey it's part of wheeling...Plus it's a trail vehicle and I like choosing the right line and using driver skill...
Transfer case was upgrades to the 1.5 inch chain, tail shaft conversion, and 6 planetary gear set.
My son oldest son is now off at West Point as a freshman, he is looking forward to coming home on thanksgiving to drive it for the first time.
I hope I can have some fun in my yj next year. My frame rotted in the back. So I bought a tj frame for it and I am putting it together tonight. I hope all the yj fans don't get mad at me but I like the suspension options for the tj frame. I just hope that everything goes smoothly. Any thoughts?
