I'm picking up the paint in the morning
If it will clean up with just buffing That's what I would do. You can always paint it later when it really needs it.

Let me take a guess on the crack. Is it were the pipes come together at the flange.

Yep, the po welded it as best he could without actually taking it off, but I'd like to get one with the flex pipe in it.

Your trip up here to NS you going camping or just staying in hotels and what not?

Haven't check anything out yet as far as a place to stay. It's to far off for that. But no camping. I'll find hotels. Dad wants to find some old friends. I want to check out his old stomping grounds.

I've only been up once, but I'm sure you'll like it. I enjoyed it while I was over and all those commercials they play over and over and over here make it look unreallllll, for example haha

Got a little work done.

Should be running this weekend. I need to pick up an alternator and battery. Drop the radiator an inch and put that in.

Started to figure out what I was going to do with the interior. I'm going with the Grey dash. So I painted the speaker openings black. Then realized I couldn't get my hand in to get the drivers side speaker out. So I started pulling the dash out.

I also got my rims in this week. 15x10's. I couldn't do all black on the rims. That's just not me. But I did go half black. I should get some points for that. lol. I have to give uplifted the credit for the rims. I first noticed them on his jeep.

Sweet wheels. I dropped our radiator also. The lift kits call to drop the shroud, but you'd have to butcher the lower end to get around the lower hose. I bent up a couple brackets for the top that were 1" longer and just redrilled the sides of the radiator. Looks great.

We might fire ours up this weekend. Rebuilt the driveshafts today. Going to be nice tomorrow and I'm off most of the day so I'm going to try to tie up the body sanding. How far did you go with the rivets and factory "waves" in the rear quarters on yours? I'm tempted to leave them as "typical Jeep" but might skim with filler.

I was at Crown picking up parts yesterday and was tempted to call you, but didn't want to bother you at work...but I did want to peek at the blue!

I didn't do anything with the rivets. They weren't that bad. When I hit it with the primer and sanded it down they looked fine. The ones under the door show, but I'm going to run a black plate across that and tie it in with the fender flares. I like that look. The rest of the body was pretty straight. There was a little wave but nothing I was concerned with.

If you want to run a plate on the bottom of your doors I'll cut 2 extras tomorrow. I bought a 4x8x1/8" sheet of steel and I have a skill saw to cut the steel so you get nice straight lines.

You could have stopped by. Just shoot me a quick call first, I'm not always there. I'll PM you my cell number.

Went to my little play ground today and got some work done.

I was looking at the fenders and the floor. The fenders look good but the floor was dull. I decided to paint everything. So I sanded it down and painted it, floor and all. I think it looks much better with the floor painted.

After that I headed for the dash. I got that back together with new speakers. I still need to grab a radio. Shifter boots are back in and all the wiring is run.

Painted up the roll cage. While that was drying I hooked up my steering shaft to the box and cleaned up allot of the wiring under the jeep.

Tires will be in this week. I'm getting close. Here comes the good weather.

I was adding up the days that I worked on it. It came out to be 56 days.

When my father found out I was building a jeep, he was all over it. He cleaned everything up and painted the small things. So in all fairness I would have to add 8 more days to that number. So 64 would be the number so far. I'll post cost when it's done. It also got me to my April finish date.

I'm going to have a Trail rated decal made for above the jeep name on the side. It is going to be the normal looking decal. But on the outer edge I'm going to have (Custom Built By Roy And Fred) put in so he can show his friends. Then give him a key so if he wants to use it he can come and grab it. I think he would like that considering he tells all his friends about the build.

I think he wants to see it finish more than me if that's possible and I know I'll never see the jeep if he has a key. but I'm okay with that.

That's great. When we started our build, the deal was the wife and I would be able to steal the Jeep now and then when the weather is nice. I doubt I'll ever drive it unless it is either "making a funny noise" or needs gas! As long as the kids have fun and are safe I'm good with that too.

Did you change the roll bar to the earlier "non-family style"? I always said I would do that if I got a wrangler (too much time in CJ's to like the "new" look). Funny how things change when the girls are going to drive it. Now I'm adding a front hoop, a rear cross-memeber and welding bars between to make a small cage.

Mine came with the family roll bar and I still have it. I bought the old style roll bar and a complete Grey dash for a hundred bucks. I'm the same I like the old school look. When the kids start using it I'll put in the other bar.

Shes looking great I can't wait to see it with those wheels on it. I'm really liking the polished with the black. Any idea how much paint you used to do the whole thing? Or how much I could get away with doing the whole thing? I found a few more spots in different places so I really don't know what to do yet! I just got back from Cuba this morning and picked up my new front fenders and ohh man the weather's getting warmer and I've got an itch to start going at this thing

I used DuPont Color coat clear coat. It took a little over half a gallon of paint and half a gallon of clear. The paint was $300.00 and the clear is $160.00 for a gallon, including the activator. You can get it in quarts, so you should be able to cut that in half.

If money gets tight, you can do it in a single stage and clear over that later to keep it from fading. But it will take more paint to cover the jeep with a single stage.

Also keep in mind DuPont isn't cheap. There are cheaper paints out there that are very good.

I've got a quart now, but it goes half n' half with reducer and 2oz of activator. It's Nason Ful-Base VOC 3.5 basecoat, with exempt slow reducer 441-68 but I'm pretty sure thats for temps above 25celcius so I think I should swap for a medium reducer. Correct? I think I might just pick up another quart and that would be plenty! It was about 80 bucks for the paint reducer and activatior through work. As for clear I'm just using what we have around work which is just the regular Nason clear I believe.

I'm amazed that someone can be this amazing at everything needed to be done for a complete build lol. I'm jealous of your mad skillz. Are you putting flares on the fenders? or are you leaving them bare?

Nasons okay and I be leave it's a DuPont line. I've used it. Be careful on the mix. Go a little heavy on the paint. Also shoot something other than the jeep when you set the gun up. Nason has a tendency to not cover very well if you mix it 50/50.
Be careful of your temps when you clear it if your not in a booth. I always use a slow reducer. Reason being the longer the clear stays wet the less orange peal look and you don't have a problem with dry lines. But on the flip side there's more time for dust to find the paint. Keep your floor wet that will help.

He painted the small things lol u forgot the front bumper. Little rusty but it gives it character lol

Be careful of your temps when you clear it if your not in a booth. I always use a slow reducer. Reason being the longer the clear stays wet the less orange peal look and you don't have a problem with dry lines. But on the flip side there's more time for dust to find the paint. Keep your floor wet that will help.
I've used it before on my S10 more than few times doing rockers, doors, cab corners door jambs and bumpers and was very happy with the results. It is a line by Dupont, I did have trouble the first time I used it with it not covering very well, but every other time after I never had a problem. But for the price I can't complain

What size tires are you planning running your Jeep?

The bumper was bent. We put it in the press, 15 ton later it was straight. Now he just needs to paint it up. That bumper won't be on there to long, but I need to build the back bumper first. It had bumperetts, I think that's one of the first thing a threw away.

You'll have no problem if you've already played with it. If the price is right, go for it.

Okay everyone I'm looking for some opinions. You've looked at the build. What would you run for fender flares. I like these, but I change my mind 6 times a day. I 'm also a little nervous that they may sag after the suns beats on those front fenders.

That's a great looking jeep. I don't know if he built it or bought it. But who cares it looks great.
