Here are three seats I picked up for 300 bucks. They don't match my dash or doors. I'm going to leave the middle the light grey color and dye the outer edge and back of the seats to match the doors and dash.

I plain on new seats over the summer.

I tried some store dyes but it's not close enough. So I ordered some dark grey dye.

It looks close in the picture, but not close enough for me.

I also ordered my fenders today. Hopefully they will be in this week and installed by this weekend.

If all goes well, I'm ready for the street after this weekend.

Let the fun begin.

I had a couple of holes I had to open up. But for the most part it fit with very little effort.

The dye I'm using is made by SEM. I sprayed three different shades of grey over a tan door panel in different spots and had no issues covering the Tan, so you should have no problems with black.

I also sprayed part of the panel black and then covered that with grey to see if I could darken the grey using a black base. The grey ended up being the same shade. The black base made no difference. The grey also covered the black easily.

I'm going to leave the center on the seats light grey and shoot the outer edge dark grey and call it a day.

Wheelies

When I was at your shop the other day you mentioned that you wanted to put in the V8 so you can do wheelies. During my lunch break i found a video I thought you may find them interesting. Poor Guy, his friends will never let him live it down.

You're not far from me, so it wasn't just the cold this winter. January looked like it wasn't going to stop snowing! Enjoy the ride, and keep up the good work. I look forward to the finish product.

I have a couple of things to finish tomorrow. Then it's out for a test drive if the weather brakes. It's not finished but it's drivable. I need roll bar covers, bikini top, rear bumper and tire rack for a start.

All in good time.

@Always Stuck NICE!!!

How safe is the dye that you used on the seats?
(Hot day + sweating + white or tan shorts = DAMMIT!!!) lol

Are those the Bushwhackers or the Rugger Ridge flares?
Also, what wheel & tire size are you running?

I've never had a problem in the past with dyes. But if you see someone walking around a little grey stuck on him. Guess that would be me.

Fenders are Smitty built 6".
Rims are Summit racing 33X10X15
Tire are BFG AT's 33X12.5X15

Went 3 miles and got towed back to the shop. Lost all spark. I haven't looked into it yet. I'll fix it tomorrow.

One of my biggest fears with our is the same will happen...or a clutch will go...or??? Looks great. Flairs compliment the Jeep well. Hopefully just a coil or something simple and you'll be running again. How was the ride compared to the 1000 miles you put on before the transformation? (tough to tell in only 3 miles I suppose)

A little choppy on the ride, but the springs will settle down and to much air in the tires. The sides don't have any dirt on them. Not sure on the gearing yet. I'll let you know.

Update - To funny

I walked around all morning thinking about the tow home. Running the build threw my head. I come up with it has to be a bad ground because it was running to good before I ripped it apart.

Now keep in mind my dad has been with me for most of this build and we have had a blast doing it. He's 74 and going strong. Doesn't he show up just before lunch, pushing me to find out what went wrong. So I go after it at lunch. I was going to work on it after work. It turn out to be a plug that didn't click in all the way in and rattled out. LIFE IS GOOD.

Now the funny part.

He want's something to do now that it runs. So I put it outside so he can wash it, it's nasty from sitting in the garage with all the dust and dirt. He does and wipes it all off. In the mean time I take a run down the street for some parts. Now I have the parts and I'm heading back to the garage and I see this old YJ that looks VERY WELL BUILT(lmao) coming at me, sure enough he's out for a cruise in the jeep.

It was the best feeling to see him in the jeep having fun. I just gave him thumbs up. When he came back he had a smile on his face I can't explain.
I think it was happy and proud all at the same time.

I found out he's been telling all his friend about this jeep (and he has many friends.) So I went out and had a Custom Built By sticker made with both our names on it (His First) and an extra key.

Maybe if I'm lucky he'll let me borrow the jeep sometime and I'm okay with that.

This build isn't over, it's just drivable. I still need bumpers, tire carrier, winch and so on.

Let's get serious is it ever over.

I will post what this build cost me. Give me some time to pull the slips together. But I will tell you if it was 10 grand. The look on my dads face was worth every dime X10. Now put the tissue down and tell the wife you had something in your eye.

Still - LMAO

Nice to hear that the electrical was a minor glitch. Awesome that your dad is haveing a ball with it. Probably felt like the first time you had HIS keys a long time ago and took his vehicle out for a cruise! We're getting closer on ours and I can't wait for the girls to start cruising. They were painting the roll bar, priming the tub and sanding yesterday.

Must have been fun to watch your Jeep go buy and say "that's a good looking ride". You're like me, the trip is as much fun as the destination.

-John
