looking to build a roof rack

Hey guys, I have an idea for a roof rack and looking for some input. First off, let me give you a little background. I have a 95 yj, 2.5l with both soft and hard top as well as full and half doors. I took the hard top and full doors off once the weather broke and I have no intention on reinstalling till it gets cold. OK, my son and I like to go camping during the summer. This is my first jeep, just bought it a few months ago. We want to take the jeep camping so we can go more places and have more fun I bought a cargo hitch carrier that I will use for heavier items like the cooler and what not, was only $40...however I need more cargo area. So I have a bunch of pressure treated 2x6's my plan was to use these to, for lack of a better word, make a "basket". I would make a rectangle out of them, cut on 45's then bolt the corners together. Then i was thinking two planks going down the inside and to attach I was gonna drill holes thru the middle planks and use U-bolts. I plan on using some type of wing nuts for easy on/off. Now I know making this out of wood is not the most ideal, but I already own it and I really don't want to invest much money into this. I'm gonna paint the wood flat black, get a big jeep sticker and put it on the front of the basket then a nice heavy clear coat. What do you all think? Keep in mind, this is strictly to transport camping gear to and from and will not spend any other time on my rig. I'll take lots of pics and maybe throw some type of a write-up together.
