Making a safari top

Last summer I replaced my old soft top. The old top was in fair shape except for the back corners.

What I want to do is make a summer top that ties down in the back. What I need to know is when I cut it to size in the back, how great does the sewing need to be? Had anyone tried something like this?
Roads? Where we're going we don't need roads.

Not sure if you ever found a answer but you might be looking for something like this.

"Lots of times a mule will balk if he doesn't think his leader is using good judgment, but a Jeep will always try."-WWII Sgt

If you find yourself between a rock and a hard place...on second thought, with a Jeep Wrangler you wont ever have to worry about that....

Im no threadsrus but I would think the stiching would need to be quite strong as it'll be a lot of force from the wind driving down the road. Also the type of thread used would make a big difference. There might be some how to videos on youtube about convertable top upholstery that could be helpful.

Look for uv tolerant thread. It is used on boat covers etc. Very strong, weather resistant(important)
