Wiring the amp to the stereo

That's it so far. I need to get pictures of my rear tailgate hinges. It's coming along slowly, but once spring and summer hit, I'm hoping that the project will really pick up

Great work so far. I'm following along closely because I have an '89 YJ that needs a lot of the same stuff and although I've got a few years on you, this is my first rebuild.

YJMan, to be only 17 you've got skills. The rockers and the floor man look impressive in the pics....if that comes off condensending I didnt intend it to at all.

Oh and the rear corner crunch....the first one hurts, but it takes the sting out of the rest to follow.

The needles/pointers are NOT removed.
(No risk of damaging or mis-calibrating your gauges.)
I got this from the ebay page. I'm looking to do myself. I think it would be a cool upgrade for only $20.

very nice job man, looks like you have done some fab in your past. keep it up thats gonna be a nice rig, what are you thinkin as far as tires and lift go any ideas?

Nope no fab I'm a beginner. But thanks a lot man. For a lift, I'm going to stick with a 2.5 inch for now because it's my daily driver and I want to put a plow on it next year. Wish I could go bigger but I might end up needing an SYE which is more money that I don't have at the moment. Plus, from what I've seen this Jeep do stock, it will do fine on the trails around here with a 2.5 inch lift in my opinion. Plus, a good driver put in a Jeep will do more damage than a bad driver with a 10 inch lift . For tires, I'm sticking with 31's or 32's. I like the Treadwright Guard Dogs. They look nice and they're cheap, but I'm worried about it being a retread tire.

But a 3.5 inch lift wiht 32s is still on my mind So I haven't totally decided yet.

Oh I'm also trying not to go to big with a lift and tires because I don't want to have to regear. I hear it's expensive.

I bought a Herculiner kit that came with a roller, a gallon of Herculiner, and a brush. Rolled it on and it was good to go!

Zombie - Raptor Liner is another option if you have an air compressor - i have some pics up in the YJ thread - love the texture and the price was right (110.00).

I screwed up the first coat and used a lot so I needed a gallon and a quart. A gallon would have been enough if I didn't mess up the first coat.

PREP IT CORRECTLY! Do lots of sanding everywhere, get all the shine gone. Wipe every spot down with acetone, then apply the bedliner.

dont skimp on prep work! it doesnt come out as well!

It's been a while since I've updated this thread. After the hinges and the stereo system, I needed to do some brake work because my front brakes locked up on me and my rear brakes were shot.

Replaced the rear drum shoes and hardware (sorry no pics of installation. too busy getting my hands dirty to take pics)


Replaced front calipers and pads:



And here I am with my bud on the trails after the brake work!


In the mean time, my cousins friend gave me a great deal on his new, never been installed, Rough Country 4 inch lift. I felt 2.5 inches wasn't enough, and boy was I right. I love the height, especially for the price of $250

On the trail, I experienced my first blown tire!

Replaced it with the stock Good Year Wrangler spare tire!

Shortly after that incident, I bought the new shoes! 33 inch Falken Wild Peak AT tires.



Then a week or two later, we installed the lift and did a little frame rot repair

Yes we welded the drop brackets on. The bolt holes in the frame were rotten beyond reuse so we said screw it and welded them on. They can be cut off though

Here's my jeep and I offroading right before a big storm. Me being in the photo ruined the picture. I look like a dork here so just try to ignore me.

Just yesterday I replaced the transmission mount but forgot to take pictures and I broke my rear u-joint last night but didn't have the camera. The u-joint is being fixed right now.

That's about it so far! Might have some lift shackles soon so I'm pretty excited.

Hope I don't get shot down for this one. Made my own high flow intake for about $70! Quite happy with it. It did help a bit!





Next was replacing the exhaust. The old muffler was beat by a broken u-joint and the 20 year old system needed to go. Ordered myself up a magnaflow high flow cat and a flowmaster 44 series muffler. Went to napa to buy a new tail pipe and now the Jeep sounds much better. A deep throaty tone at lower rpms and a very aggresive tone at higher rpms (not ricey though!). With just a couple of exhaust clamps, everything fit together perfectly. No cutting, drilling, nothing. It was perfect for the Jeep.

After the hurricane that hit us here in CT, this is what happened.





Notice how the tree fell right between the Jeep and truck. Nothing but minor, hard to see dents on the truck and a bent plastic fender flare on the Jeep (I can probably straighten it with a heat gun).

Next project was fixing the fuel lines from the gas tank an doing something about the sending unit because it was way off. While the tank was down, I sprayed everything down with rust stopping spray paint then bed lined over it all. I replaced the gas lines and as for the sending unit, I only cleaned off the contacts for now. I was unable to find a sending unit without a pump. By cleaning the contacts with electrical contact cleaner, it did help make the guage read MUCH more accurately. It had grime on the contact surfaces.

Next was to replace the clutch. I bought a new AC Delco clutch kit. Everything fit perfectly. The quality is excellent. Not one complaint.

I had already trimmed my rear flares, so the front looked like it need more lift. Quick fix? Trim the front flares!









My next problem was, I couldn't see well at night. It was my birthday, and I wanted new lights. Found KC Daylighters, and they worked wonders. 100W halogen bulbs can really make a difference. (Yes, I turn them off on main roads and when I see other cars. I know how blinding they can be!) They look like theyre pointed out in these pictures. Thats because they are. I wanted to spread the beams apart a bit. I'm getting another pair for the windshield on christmas!

This is where I got light happy and spotted my 1963 Jacobsen tractor..











For 20 bucks at walmart, I got 2 55 watt halogen lights with a full wiring kit and everything. Gotta love walmart.

Redoing the audio system next the correct way. Then mounting my windshield lights. After that I think I'm going to pack it away for the winter and just enjoy driving it until the spring, when I plan to do the body work and some frame work.

Haven't been offroading in a while.. no where to go around here. But my friend and I are planning a small trip for this upcoming summer!
