Oh yes, but a 1980 CJ7 wont ever be as comfy in cab as a 2005 ext cab silverado lol. It should be pretty nice when done. The 110" wheelbase already is noticeable over my past TJ.

Well, I've got a 20 mile drive to work. I 'could' drive the Jeep every day but it does make me appreciate the silky smooth ride and good gas mileage of my Taurus. And the automatic tranny is a lot nicer in stop and go traffic. It doesn't bother me to leave the Jeep at home....I choose to do that. Even if I had unlimited cash, it'd probably still stay at home some days.

I believe it Indy and that is a nice truck.

Imped I understand that. It's just me but I find a car almost boring to drive but I can appreciate the simplicity and comfort as well. I'm sure the stop and go you mentioned is much easier with an auto. Makes sense

Oh believe me, it is boring. But driving each one for a couple days makes you appreciate the other one. Come spring time, the Jeep will see a lot more miles.

There's more to suspension than height, and all 'lift' refers to is height but doesn't take into account anything of value. Just one term I absolutely hate.
I'm glad to know your methods aren't as unconventional as i'd first perceived, but no need to be so modest You're right, the market and the internets are bulging at the seams with people talking about lift kits and how much lift you need to have to fit a certain tire, but there's very little emphasis on the importance of proper suspension geometry (at least that's the way it is in the jk section of this forum, don't know if it's different for you tj guys).

You say "build smart, use common sense and logical resoning," and i'm happy to oblige

Generally speaking, you get more of the finer details in regards to geometry and such in the TJ section vs. the JK section due to the higher level of experience and tech in that section.....there's not much of it on here, this is more of a noob-friendly forum. Go over to JF and Pirate and there's plenty of it. Generally, the JK guys that focus on the more important stuff have owned other rigs and have been to a few rodeos.

But you're very right--the vast majority completely fail to acknowledge anything of value when it comes to suspension and just take the manufacturer's word at face value. That's one big reason as to why AEV, RK and Teraflex are the 'big three' with that segment.....a complete lack of understanding of what separates a good suspension from an awesome one on the customer's end. A lack of understanding leads to hype, jargon and gimmicks taking precedence over facts, logic and quality.

I doubt i'll post much, but i'll keep my eyes open for ya.

Right? But there's a whole hell of a lot more tech info scattered about in the JF thread. I also just realized it's the most viewed active build thread on JF......I was kinda surprised, given the company (Redlyner, Hendrix, Bennett, etc).

Started to get some snow last night

One question. Where in the world did you learn how to do ALL of this? Your workmanship is amazing.

Nowhere formally. I've just picked things up over the years and my tastes and preferences have narrowed down to what you see.

Very well done sir! I tried to get thru your thread on JF, but just haven't made the time to do it, so I'm glad you did the condensed version here. All the basics covered and lots of great ideas. I probably missed it, but did you have to massage the tub any for clearancing the flat skid, or did the low pro/BL/MML give you enough?

No, I built the skid to allow the drivetrain to sit as absolutely low as possible. I had enough clearance that I could've fit a 241 with no tub contact or reduced my body lift to nothing. That skid and mount are for sale.

I decided today that I'm gonna wheel on Tuesday. For anyone that doesn't have any major plans, come join me in Attica @ the Badlands for some good wheeling. I'll be leaving from Westfield at about 8am.

Yes, that's a UCF mount. The whole reason Matt @ UCF started selling that was due to me telling him to make one. The bottom picture clearly shows how efficient my skid + the mount were....the drivetrain sits very low. Maximize tuck, minimize drivetrain rise.

That's already off and the Savvy crossmember is already bolted up. Has been for weeks now.

That was a long time ago, I don't remember. I don't run a 'lift kit' from any one company. Those are 35" Kevlars.
