my cheap roof rack

So I've been looking for a roof rack for awhile. I need something to carry camping stuff like tent, sleeping bags, chairs, dry food and whatnot. I bought a hitch rack to carry my cooler and heavier items. I built this rack for under $30, I know it won't carry a spare or anything but that's not what I was trying to do. I built it out of 1/2" EMT conduit, a few nuts and bolts and some couplers. I made it the width of the roll bars right behind the windshield and will clamp down with just 4 U bolts. I plan on mounting up tomorrow, just want to give the paint the night to cure up. This is very affordable way to make yourself a basket, but I stress...it is for light cargo. The way i went with the build it can only be used with the top off but I don't go camping when its gonna rain so its all good. Let me know what ya think and I'll update more pics tomorrow.

Personally i wouldn't trust that thing with any weight. I have used 1/2" emt and it is not structural and designed to hold weight let alone the lateral forces that it will encounter while driving and weight shifting etc.

Good luck and i hope i am wrong but i know if i saw you on the road, i wouldn't drive behind you.

I'm gonna have less then 75lbs spread across it. I'm not worried about it going anywhere. I had it on my work horses and stacked up over 150lbs of 2x6's on it and it was fine. I've read over a dozen write ups on making these out of EMT with no issues. Gonna get it mounted up today.

Static load is a completely different animal than dynamic but like I said good luck and hopefully it holds up.
