Hey I noticed on your flex pic. Did you mount the trailer tub to a pre made trailer frame or was that build your own.

The kit form sounds perfect, they get to say I built it. Also the price would drop a plenty due to no wheels or tire's on your pallet. I would also not powder coat anything either due to damage in shipping.

Great Concept you would have.

Ahh. Looks very similar to the premade frames. Which I have a old one laying around which would make it much easier to do

Hey Phritchey Merry Christmas and I hope Santa fills your Jeep with Goodies.

I just Noticed your spare carrier has the jerry cans behind it, what brand of carrier is that or did you knock it up?

Thanks,
Nick.

I enjoyed reading of your build and it has motivated me to build a Jeep styled trailer. I found a wrecked JK Saturday and I will be picking it up later this week.

@ Xtreme4li ~ thanks man I appreciate it, Im in the process of finalizing my bodies and have done some rough pricing, I'm doing my best to keep the kits around 1500 but its proving a good challenge. I'm confident that the product that comes out is going to be A1 top notch for a great price.
@ RareSS ~ thats awesome! let me know if theres anything I can do to help, it's difficult being several states away but if you have any questions that I may help with just ask! my knowledge is yours.

phr: are you discovering any advantages with one style vs another on tail gate design/stability?

For me, I am weighing 2 things on which one to go with for the trailer kits, with a swing away it makes for a nice place to mount a spare tire and allows for easy access to the inner tub of the trailer and accessing your belongings, this can be helpfull when the removable top is in the up position and you need to gain access to camping gear etc...etc... and secondly with a fold down tailgate it makes for a nice table and place to set things on, and also makes an extention platform of the bed and easier to load motorcyles and larger items. I guess it's 6 and a half dozen of the other.

I'd personally go for a flip down over side.

Was able to mount my extra Hi-Lift jack on the trailer tonight, and also mocked up the shovel that will mount to the front also.

re: "ever think about a tandem axle idea I was thinking about that idea myself for my own personal trailer when I build it "

for my own point of view: tandem axles add a carrying-capacity for sure....but the added weight of the extra hardware has to be included in GCVW 'gross combined vehicle weight' or whatever they call it these days....you'd have a heavy trailer with far more capacity than is legal to tow with your JK/JKU. Other than style points, what would be the purpose?

There's a lot of single axle set ups that have far more capacity than the Wrangler is designed to tow.

Hey guys ~
I'm looking to sell my wrangler and my trailer, I'm not real good a the whole ebay thing, does anyone have any suggestions on the best way to locate a business that sells specialty vehicles (such as the jeeps we drive)? I'm looking for something interned based, just because it reaches more people worldwide.

Bad ass build man. Just out of curiosity how much would you want for the trailer? I've been considering buying and modifying a military trailer into a off road trailer but now I might have to do something like this.

Loved the read on your build! Awesome work! I saw the material costs and motivated to build one. I am not an engineer and tend to over build things.

Example being a 5x8' tilt bed utility trailer I built years ago using a 72 Toyota PU rear axle that was machined down and sleeved into 2-1/4 or 3" tube (forgot) to widen it, but as I was removing 6" of soil from my yard and then back filling with class 2 road base, some scale of the tickets showed a little over 5200lbs, certainly more weight than DOT would permit on a single axle utility trailer, as the 14" passenger car tires were mashed 1/2 flat. Just so you don't think me to be an idiot...my top speed was 35mph with a 1.5 mile distance to go one way.

I built my jeep tire swing using a machined down locking hub off an F150 4x4 and 1/4" wall 4" sq tubing with 1/2" weld in plugs, 1/2" plates to frame, pass thru trailer electrical, and bolt on trailer reciever, weighs 200lbs w/o a spare tire on it. I take everything with me on the trail and my Jeep weighs 5200lbs, with 60 + % on the rear axle....thus the need for a trailer to lighten up the rear of the jeep.

My request is the bill of materials uses as to wall thickness and size needed for the basic frame and rock sliders. I feel confident you did your research prior to the build and you well deserve top dollar for the trailer you built as custom body work is very time consuming. My fear is I will add an extra 500lbs in over building.

Would you mind sharing that info?

:P
